Dear Friend:

Welcome back to the Downing Dispatch! Keep reading to learn more about what was happening in Washington this week and some exciting news about my committee assignments.

Washington Watch

In this week's Financial Committee meeting, I questioned witnesses on how to make federal disaster recovery faster, simpler, and more accountable. Victims of natural disasters deserve assistance that is easy to navigate, not duplicative programs, added bureaucracy, and unnecessary delays.

At the Natural Resources Committee, I questioned witnesses on how Congress can cut red tape, improve capital access, and support entrepreneurship in Indian Country. Tribal enterprises are critical to economic growth across Montana’s reservations and rural communities, and federal bureaucracy should not stand in the way of opportunity or sovereignty.

House Republicans passed the SECURE America Act.

For 77 days, Democrats held DHS hostage while the men and women of ICE and Border Patrol continued putting their lives on the line without knowing when their next paycheck would come.

Montana does not pay ransoms, and neither should Congress.

This bill fully funds ICE and CBP, strengthens our borders, and backs the law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe.

I had a great time participating in the Congressional Baseball Game. A big 11-2 WIN for the Republicans! Proud to help bring home the win for Team GOP and support a great American tradition. We raised $3.25 million for charities!

Had a productive meeting with the Billings Chamber of Commerce this week to discuss the issues impacting local businesses and Montana’s economy. Billings is a major driver of growth in our state, and I’ll keep working to support the businesses that help our communities thrive.

I had the opportunity to engage with students from Little Big Horn Extension College to talk about the initiatives we're working on in Washington. My conversation with the students from Little Bighorn College was great, and I left feeling optimistic about our state's promising future.
