News from Congressman Chuck Edwards

Dear Friend,

This administration’s open border policies are jeopardizing Americans’ safety.

Since the president took office, there have been 8 million illegal crossings nationwide, and more than 6.7 million at our southern border.

ImageAmericans deserve to feel safe in our own communities.

From my one-on-one Chat With Chuck meetings to Carolina Cruiser office hours to surveys my office has sent out, the No. 1 issue that I hear from constituents over and over again is that they want our nation’s leaders to do something about the invasion at our border.

That is why I cast NC-11’s vote for H. Res. 957 - to denounce the White House’s open border policies, condemn the national security and public safety crisis along the southwest border, and urge the president to end his administration’s open border policies that are threatening the safety of our communities.

I will not let up on pressuring the president and the Senate to work with us in the House to end this historic crisis at our border.

Supporting pregnant mothers

To protect unborn life, it is also essential to protect mothers by providing them with the necessary resources and support, and I’m proud to have defended the most vulnerable among us since my time in the North Carolina Senate.

The Pregnant Students’ Rights Act requires colleges and universities to disseminate information to prospective and enrolled students regarding the rights and resources, including protections and accommodations, available to pregnant students while enrolled at these institutions.

Women shouldn’t have to choose between pursing an education or carrying their baby to term. I voted for the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act so that they are empowered to do both.

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act blocks a proposed Biden administration rule that could prohibit states from giving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds to pregnancy resource centers. These pregnancy resource centers play an important role in supporting the lives of both mothers and children. I voted for this bill so that pregnant mothers from all economic backgrounds can get the support that they need to care for themselves and their babies.

As thousands prepare to stand for life in our nation’s capital, these bills that passed the House are important steps toward protecting pregnant mothers and children’s rights.

Bidenomics continues to fail Americans

President Biden recently stopped in North Carolina to brag about what he's accomplished with Bidenomics.Image

What exactly has Bidenomics accomplished? A 17.2 percent rise in inflation.

The administration’s misguided fiscal policies will continue to hurt Americans until the debt is taken seriously and out-of-control spending is stopped.

Meanwhile, the House Budget Committee held a markup to have frank discussions about our nation’s financial condition so we can do better for America’s families, senior citizens and future generations. I’m pleased that the bills considered at the markup that address our snowballing debt – including establishing a bipartisan fiscal commission – passed the committee with support from both sides of the aisle.

There are real-life consequences to the federal government’s spending addiction, and getting our massive debt under control is a non-partisan issue.

Americans are struggling to afford the basics, and it’s time for this administration to acknowledge reality and stop pushing an unsuccessful agenda that makes life harder for Americans.

Keeping our government open

A government shutdown hurts everyone and stands to benefit no one, which is why I was compelled to vote in support of the short-term funding bill.

I understand that some members of our conference have had it with continuing resolutions, and I agree that kicking the can down the road is not what we came to Washington to do.

However, I refuse to let America’s troops - many of whom are serving in harm's way - and their families be pawns in this process.

No one wants to see our servicemen and women, retirees, federal law enforcement, Border Patrol, farmers and public servants suffer because Washington can’t get its act together.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am confident that giving Congress more time to complete our work for fiscal year 2024 through a short-term funding bill will result in lower spending and allow us to kick off the process for FY25 appropriations in a timely manner.

Annual MLK prayer breakfast

To commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I was pleased to attend another MLK prayer breakfast hosted by the Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County. The annual prayer breakfast is a cherished tradition where our community joins together to celebrate the values that Dr. King lived – including courage, compassion and service before self.

With my warmest regards,
