Dear Friend,
Online scams are targeting Americans at an alarming rate — especially older adults. In 2024 alone, scammers stole nearly $196 billion from Americans, including an estimated $81.5 billion from seniors.
That’s why I’m supporting the Safeguarding Consumers from Advertising Misconduct (SCAM) Act (H.R. 7548), legislation that would crack down on fraudulent online ads and hold online platforms accountable when they profit from scams.
The SCAM Act would:
- Ban paid scam ads and require platforms to take action against fraudulent advertising
- Require advertiser verification and stronger fraud detection safeguards
- Create faster timelines to investigate reports and remove scam ads
- Empower the FTC, states, and consumers to hold bad actors accountable
- Older Americans should not have to worry about scammers stealing their hard-earned savings.
This legislation is about protecting consumers, increasing accountability, and making the internet safer for everyone.
Sincerely,

Chuck Edwards Member of Congress |
