Washington is cracking down on fraud, securing our borders, and protecting the programs hardworking Americans depend on.
Accountability in Cashless Bail Policies
Dangerous criminals should not be released back onto our streets without accountability, and the public deserves to know where these policies are in place. The tragic and senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte was a devastating reminder of what can happen when repeat offenders are allowed back into our communities.
That's why I backed the Cashless Bail Reporting Act, legislation that requires the Attorney General to publish a list of state and local governments that allow the release of dangerous criminals without bail. Transparency is the first step toward accountability, and NC-11 deserves to know when our communities are at risk.
Combating Waste, Fraud, and Abuse
Fraud is not a victimless crime — it wastes taxpayer money, weakens trust in government, and takes resources away from families who genuinely need assistance. The federal government should be held to the same level of accountability families in NC-11 expect from their own household budgets.
The House took action on several pieces of legislation to stop fraud in its tracks by advancing the following legislation:
- No Aid for Ghost Students Act: Prevents fraudulent actors from collecting federal student aid for students who do not exist.
- Stopping Fraudulent Payments Act: Strengthens the federal government's ability to recover improper and fraudulent payments made across federal programs.
- Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act: Requires federal agencies to implement stronger safeguards to detect and prevent fraud before it occurs.
- Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in TANF Act: Cracks down on misuse of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds to ensure aid reaches the families who truly need it.
- Stop Child Care Scams Act: Permanently bars fraudulent child care providers from ever receiving federal funding again and requires states to report improper payments annually.
Securing Our Borders
Secure borders mean safer communities, including right here in NC-11. House Republicans passed nearly $70 billion in funding for ICE and CBP to strengthen border security and give law enforcement the tools they need to do their jobs.
This funding will support more agents at the border, expand technology used to intercept fentanyl before it reaches our communities, and help remove dangerous criminal illegal immigrants from our streets. Western North Carolina has seen the consequences of failed border policies firsthand, from the spread of fentanyl to increased public safety concerns tied to illegal immigration.
