Money Coming to WNC, Constituent Services, and Appropriations Wins

Western North Carolina continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, and nearly $200 million in FEMA funding is now moving to communities across our region.

Over the past two weeks, I have worked to secure funding for critical recovery projects throughout NC-11, including:

$32 million to Yancey County for waterway debris removal
$29 million to Buncombe County for acquisition and demolition of 62 flood and landslide-damaged properties
$21 million to Jackson County for waterway debris removal
$18 million to Henderson County for waterway debris removal
$13 million to NCDOT for Henderson County road and sewer repairs
$10 million to Avery County for debris removal

While there is still work to do, these investments represent meaningful progress in helping our mountain communities recover, rebuild, and become more resilient following Hurricane Helene. For a full breakdown of all funding secured for NC-11, click here.

Passport Fair

Being First in Constituent Service means finding ways to make government work better for NC-11. Over three days in Asheville, my office helped 322 North Carolinians secure passports and save more than $26,000 in expedited processing fees through our Passport Fair with the U.S. Department of State and the Charleston Passport Center. Appropriations

As North Carolina's only appropriator, I'm focused on making sure Western North Carolina's priorities are represented throughout the federal funding process. So far this year, I’ve advanced 11 annual spending bills through committee, including more than $25 million for projects across NC-11.

That funding includes support for Hurricane Helene housing recovery, emergency response infrastructure, improvements at Asheville Regional Airport, and a new resiliency hub in Mitchell County. I also secured provisions aimed at improving FEMA's response by reducing processing delays and helping rural communities navigate the reimbursement process.

These bills still have to advance in the Senate before becoming law, and I'll continue fighting to make sure Western North Carolina's priorities are represented every step of the way.
