News from Representative Maggie Goodlander

Friends,

I served for more than a decade as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve. One of the first things you learn as a Naval intelligence officer is that classified information has got to be protected because when it's not, people lose their lives.

What Pete Hegseth has done – disclosing American war plans over an unsecured group chat – was a completely improper, outrageous, and truly dangerous move that threatens the lives of the men and women who serve our country in uniform.

**Congresswoman Goodlander speaks to WMUR about the shocking breach in national security.**

As a member of the House of Representatives, I did not have a vote on Pete Hegseth’s nomination, but I said loud and clear before the Senate voted what I believe now: He lacks the judgment to serve as our Secretary of Defense. He disclosed war plans in a group chat. He breached our national security and the public trust. He should resign and an investigation on this grave error should begin immediately.

I know from my time at the Department of Justice how important a thorough and impartial investigation into this kind of conduct is.

LEGISLATION OF THE WEEK

**In New Hampshire, women working full-time, year-round earned 76% of what men earned in 2023.**

Granite Staters are facing sky-high prices on everything from housing to healthcare and groceries to gas. We are in a cost-of-living crisis, and women in New Hampshire are earning 76 cents on every dollar earned by men in our state. That’s not right. This week, I was proud to help introduce the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the pay gap for women across New Hampshire.

I will never stop fighting for a fair deal.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Image**Congresswoman Goodlander speaks on the House Floor about economic patriotism.**

This week, I spoke on the House Floor about the need to build an economy that works for hardworking Granite Staters – not billionaires and big corporations.

The anti-monopoly spirit is as old as America. It's rooted in a simple idea that power has got to be checked — just like political power, economic power has got to be checked, too. That's the spirit of economic patriotism I am fighting for in Congress.

Image**Congresswoman Goodlander meets with New Hampshire veterans in Colebrook**

We owe a sacred obligation to the women and men who served our country in uniform. This past week in Colebrook, I met with some of the veterans who define the spirit of New Hampshire. I will always keep their stories and priorities with me as I advocate for what matters most in Congress.

Earlier this year, I was proud to introduce the ASSIST Act, commonsense, bipartisan legislation to cut the red tape that has prevented New Hampshire veterans from getting the equipment they need to travel safely.

HOW CAN WE HELP

Our team is here to help you. Whether you need support navigating a federal agency or help with a military academy nomination, we are here to serve you. Please get in touch by calling 603-226-1002 or by visiting Goodlander.House.Gov.

If you have been impacted by – or are concerned you may have been impacted by – a recent change in a federal policy or program, I want to hear from you. Please share your story here. The Trump Administration is issuing new executive actions and orders every day that are hurting hardworking Granite Staters. Your stories are one of the most powerful tools I have to fight back against the harm these actions are inflicting on our communities.

If you have witnessed potential wrongdoing under the Trump Administration, please report it to the House Oversight Committee here.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has issued an injunction commanding Elon Musk and DOGE to comply with the citizen requests under the Freedom of Information Act. This law encompasses the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, which entitles any citizen to access personal information held in any U.S. government records system. DOGE has an obligation to respond to specific information demands from any U.S. citizen who exercises their legal right to defend their privacy and establish the security of their private information. If you’d like to complete this form, please find it on my website here.

Finally, a quick reminder: it’s tax season, New Hampshire. The IRS Direct File tool is open and available for folks in New Hampshire. Learn more and see if you qualify. Don’t forget, the deadline to file or request an extension is April 15, 2025.
