May 1, 2025

Friends,

This week marked 100 days of President Trump’s second term in the White House. In that time, I have heard from thousands of people across our state – police officers and firefighters, small business owners and employees, teachers and child care providers, servicemembers and veterans, nurses and patients, farmers and foresters, and everyone in between – about the pain and chaos this administration is causing.

I’m 118 days into my job representing you in the People’s House, and it’s the honor of my lifetime to be doing this work. I am fighting with everything I’ve got to deliver on what matters most to you and your family: lowering costs and protecting our economy, keeping our communities and country safe, securing our freedoms and democracy, and ensuring everyone gets a fair deal.

For real-time updates on my work fighting for the Granite State, I hope you’ll consider following me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Twitter, and YouTube. In the meantime, here’s a recap of some of the latest developments from this week.

DEMANDING THE PENTAGON CONDUCT AND PASS AN AUDIT

Watch my remarks calling for a complete audit of the Department of Defense above.

If you’re serious about cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, shouldn’t requiring the Pentagon to pass a clean audit be a top priority?

It is completely unacceptable that the Pentagon has failed seven financial audits in recent years, and that it continues to stand alone as the only federal department that has never obtained a clean financial audit. A clean audit is essential for any organization that depends upon the public’s trust, and the Department of Defense is no exception.

This week, the House Armed Services Committee considered the budget reconciliation package for 2025, which designates an additional $150 billion to the Department of Defense. I introduced an amendment to allow the DoD to spend $100 billion. But, in order to spend the last $50 billion, the Department has to adhere to the statutory deadline of December 31, 2028, for its audit.

This is a common-sense amendment that will protect our national security and military readiness while also strengthening our economic security and fiscal responsibility. I will keep fighting to ensure that the days of the Pentagon’s failed financial audits become history.

STANDING UP FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE’S SMALL BUSINESSES

ImageI am proud to stand up for New Hampshire’s small businesses in Congress.

This week in the House Small Business Committee, I introduced a commonsense, one-sentence amendment that would prevent big corporations from boxing out small businesses by flooding the zone with big corporate lobbyists.

House Republicans say it requires “more information than necessary.”

You be the judge – learn more about my amendment here.

PROTECTING LIFE-SAVING HEALTH CARE

ImageTurning off this funding stream and taking dollars away that were promised to New Hampshire will do nothing but jack up costs and hurt hardworking families.

President Trump’s senseless attacks on the life-saving health care that Title X supports, from cancer screenings to annual exams and birth control, are hurting Granite Staters most in need.

On Monday, Senator Maggie Hassan and I met with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and other family planning providers to hear about the impact cuts to federal family planning are having on patients throughout the Granite State.

I will never stop fighting to protect access to critical health care.

HONORING NEW HAMPSHIRE’S VETERANS

ImageI will always fight for our veterans and their families.

I’m proud to be a member of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and grateful every day for the work MOAA NH does to help us fulfill our sacred obligation to New Hampshire’s veterans, servicemembers, and their families.

ImageWe owe a sacred obligation to our veterans, and I am grateful to the incredible Granite Staters who help us live up to it every single day.

I was honored to take part in the Granite State Warriors Award celebration in Plymouth. Congratulations and thank you to this year’s recipients: Kent Eberhardt and Keith Lacasse of the VA Medical Center in Manchester, who are doing extraordinary work for our veterans at the VA, and Service Credit Union, which has been supporting servicemembers, veterans, and their families since its inception.

CELEBRATING NEW HAMPSHIRE’S HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTS

ImageNew Hampshire’s students are our future.

Artists are essential to American democracy. They challenge us. They teach us. They inspire us.

I am so inspired by the young artists I met from high schools across New Hampshire who participated in this year’s Congressional Art Competition.

ImageThank you to all the Granite Staters who came out to say hello and share their artwork.

Congratulations to everyone who submitted their work!
