May 18, 2025

Friends,

It was a busy week in Congress. The fight to protect Medicaid continues and I’m never going to quit. I can do my job best when I hear directly from you about what matters most. Your advocacy and the stories you have shared about the ways that proposed cuts to healthcare will hurt you and your family are the most powerful thing we’ve got in this fight. So please share yours here.

For real-time updates on my work fighting for you, I hope you’ll follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Twitter, and YouTube. In the meantime, here’s a recap of some developments from this past week.

STANDING UP AGAINST THE PRESIDENT’S UNLAWFUL TRADE WARS

People across our state and our country are feeling the pain of President Trump’s chaotic economy and trade wars. My number one priority in Congress is lowering the sky-high costs that you and your family are facing – from the grocery store to the toy store. That’s why I’m fighting back.

Read more about what Walmart’s CEO said about how President Trump’s tariffs will raise prices here.

Under the United States Constitution, Congress has the power to impose tariffs – not the President.

I will always fight to protect and defend our United States Constitution.

I will not stand idly by as the President usurps this power and uses it to jack up costs for hardworking Americans. That’s why this week, my colleagues and I filed a brief in court challenging President Trump’s unlawful, chaotic, and costly tariffs.

Read the amicus brief I filed for yourself here.

Granite Staters are resilient, but they shouldn’t have to pay the price for President Trump’s unlawful trade wars. I will never stop fighting with absolutely everything I’ve got – from our courts to the halls of Congress, where I am helping to lead bipartisan legislation aimed at checking the President’s reckless use of tariffs.

STANDING UP FOR WORKERS AND SMALL BUSINESSES

Costs are rising at a time when wages are just not keeping up. Meanwhile, corporate profits have never been higher.

Before I took the oath of office to represent New Hampshire in the People’s House, I served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the Justice Department, where we took on some of the world’s most anticompetitive practices that are harming workers and small businesses and jacking up costs.

Watch my full video on how I’m fighting back against anti-competition practices in Congress here.

This week in the House Committee on Small Business, I spoke to small business owners about the pernicious practice of “no poach” agreements and how the Trump Administration is hurting workers and small businesses by tearing down backstops on these anticompetitive practices.

As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I will always advocate for New Hampshire’s small businesses.

New Hampshire’s small businesses are facing unprecedented uncertainty and challenges because of the President’s trade wars. They are the backbone of our economy and it was an honor to join the SBA New Hampshire Small Business Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and innovation of incredible entrepreneurs across our state.

Watch my remarks in the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure here.

This week, I was proud to bring the voices and priorities of Granite Staters to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and to advocate for cutting bureaucratic red tape and protecting the federal funds that New Hampshire relies on.

DELIVERING FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE’S VETERANS

I’m proud to bring the voices and priorities of New Hampshire’s veterans to Congress.

New Hampshire is home to more than 85,000 veterans. We have a sacred obligation to ensure these brave women and men can access the full range of health care they need.

That’s why my colleagues and I are calling on the VA to make good on its promise to expand services at the Manchester VA Medical Center.

Read our full letter to the VA here.

I will always defend the rights and freedoms that make America the greatest nation the world has ever known.

I also spent time this week with our partners at New Hampshire Legal Assistance and 603 Legal Aid who I’m proud to be working alongside in the fight for the most American of ideas: equal access to justice for all, including our veterans. In Congress, I’m fighting for the funding these extraordinary organizations rely on to deliver for New Hampshire.

HONORING THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP OUR FAMILIES SAFE

I joined New Hampshire’s law enforcement community and leaders from across the state to honor the fallen officers who have died in the line of duty. My heart is with their families, friends, and departments.

Today and every day, we thank New Hampshire’s brave police officers who dedicate their careers to protecting our communities and keeping us safe.

We are forever grateful to the brave officers who gave their lives to keep our communities safe.

During National Police Week, I hope you join me in thanking New Hampshire’s brave law enforcement officers.

New Hampshire’s Police Departments work tirelessly to keep our families safe. From day one on the job, I have spent time with police departments across our state to discuss how Congress can best support them.

Earlier this week, I spent time with the dedicated team at the Concord Police Department.

Liberty is the first Comfort Dog in New Hampshire to serve in a Police Department.

A highlight of the visit was meeting Liberty, who serves in Concord PD’s K-9 Unit. Liberty is the first Comfort Dog in New Hampshire to serve in a Police Department, and over the past 6+ years, she has been an invaluable resource for the Concord community, providing support for people in crisis situations and making the legal process easier for children and victims of violence.

Thank you for your service, Liberty!

Please know that you are not alone.

No one can weather a storm alone. And with support from organizations like NAMI New Hampshire, you do not have to.

This week, during Mental Health Awareness Month, I sat down with NAMI NH’s Executive Director, Susan Stearns, to discuss the importance of protecting the Medicaid funding that allows thousands of Granite Staters to access the life-saving mental health treatment and medication they need.

The next generation of leaders and problem solvers is right here in New Hampshire.

I also joined students from across New Hampshire for Manchester Community College’s Maritime Welding Competition.
