FIGHTING AGAINST THE BIG, BRUTAL BILL
In the dead of night, House Republicans jammed a bill through Congress — a truly big bill and truly bad bill for the people of New Hampshire. But I read every bill that we vote on in the United States House of Representatives, and that’s why I was a hard no on H.R. 1.
Watch my remarks on this legislation on WMUR here.
The GOP’s budget bill will add trillions of dollars to America’s already sky-high debt to pay for tax giveaways to billionaires who do not need them. Millions of Americans – and tens of thousands of people across New Hampshire – could see their healthcare ripped away under the bill. This bill kills good-paying jobs and will jack up healthcare costs, energy costs, education costs, and more.
That’s why I used every tool to stop this legislation and why I will continue to use every tool I have to fight back against the worst provisions of this bill before they go into effect.

I spoke on the House Floor urging my colleagues to support an amendment to prevent cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Behind every line item in the GOP's Big, Brutal budget bill are real lives. We cannot say we serve the people while dismantling the programs that serve them.

The devastating cuts to healthcare in the GOP’s Big, Brutal budget bill are not hypothetical. They will hurt hardworking Granite State families. Families like John and Claudia Dery, who live in Peterborough, and rely on Medicaid to afford the care and support they need to treat John’s MS.

I also spoke with an amazing woman named Laura from the great town of Jaffrey about what Medicaid cuts would mean for people like her.
Laura is in the fight of her life — a fight for her life — against an extremely aggressive form of Leukemia. And, today, Laura’s life depends on Medicaid; she simply could not afford her cancer medication without it.
Laura, John, and Claudia are why I’m never giving up in the fight to protect your healthcare.

At a moment when the cost crisis is standing between hardworking people and the American dream, this bill is bad for New Hampshire and bad for America, and I will never stop fighting to prevent its worst impacts from going into effect. |
