Friends,

It was a busy week bringing the voices and priorities of New Hampshire to Congress as we considered critical legislation for our country.

For real-time updates on my work, I hope you’ll follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Twitter, and YouTube.

SECURING WINS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE IN THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT

Image

I worked around the clock and across the aisle to fight for New Hampshire’s priorities in the National Defense Authorization Act.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I was proud to work to secure New Hampshire’s priorities in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – key legislation that sets the priorities and spending of the Pentagon.

The last time I worked on the NDAA was when I was serving as a senior policy advisor for Senator John McCain. This bill is one of the last areas for truly bipartisan work to get done in Congress, and it’s part of the reason I wanted to serve the people of New Hampshire on the House Armed Services Committee.

After 14 hours of committee markup working through over 900 amendments, I was proud to secure dozens of provisions that will deliver for New Hampshire, our servicemembers, and our national security. As this bill works its way through Congress and towards becoming law, there will be more to come on what it means for New Hampshire, but in the meantime, I wanted to highlight two of my top priorities.

Image

During a recent visit to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, I saw once again how the women and men of America’s first and finest public shipyard are critical to our national security.

My first priority is delivering for our servicemembers and military families. I was proud to champion provisions that will:

  • Support the dedicated workforce at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard who play a critical role in our nation’s security by helping to end the Trump Administration’s hiring freeze that’s leaving the shipyard understaffed and risking their essential work.

  • Help the New Hampshire National Guard recruit and retain qualified officers by removing red tape that keeps officers from transferring their status. This will help strengthen our National Guard and the safety of our state.

  • Lower costs for our servicemembers and military families by supporting innovative solutions to the childcare and housing crises to ensure every family can access the American Dream and thrive.

  • My second priority is holding the Pentagon accountable and combating waste, fraud, and abuse in our government.

My amendment guarantees our military the right to repair its own equipment, a key step in cutting down on waste, fraud, and abuse in our military.

Right now, obscure clauses in government contracts are preventing our military from repairing our own equipment. This is an absolute outrage. That’s why I championed an amendment to guarantee that our Armed Forces have the right to repair their own equipment. This is a key step in cracking down on corporate abuses of power that are wasting your taxpayer dollars and undermining America’s military readiness.

I will not rest until our Armed Forces have the right to repair their own equipment. At every opportunity in the House Armed Services Committee, I have questioned leaders of the Army, Navy, and Air Force about their plans to institute a right-to-repair policy in their contracts. I will keep pushing to get this done.

This amendment requires the Pentagon to make progress on completing and passing a clean audit before receiving more funding.

For all of us who are serious about cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, requiring the Pentagon to pass a clean audit is a top priority. It is completely unacceptable that the Pentagon has failed SEVEN financial audits in recent years, and that it continues to stand alone as the only federal department that has never obtained a clean financial audit.

That’s why I championed an amendment that requires the Pentagon to complete a clean audit. A clean audit is essential for any organization that depends upon the public’s trust, and the Department of Defense is no exception.

Learn more about my work fighting for a clean audit of the Pentagon from WCAX here.

Our servicemembers, veterans, and military families represent the best of us — their grit, heart, and sacrifice drive our country forward. I will always fight for them in Congress.

LOWERING YOUR COSTS

Image

I’m fighting in Congress every day to make child care more affordable for hardworking Granite Staters.

The child care crisis is hurting New Hampshire families and our economy. Hardworking people can’t find the care they need, and when they can, they can’t afford it. We have got to do better.

That’s why I was proud to introduce the Child Care for Working Families Act, legislation to make quality childcare more affordable so every family can thrive.

Image

The legislation will expand access to more high-quality child care options, stabilize the child care sector, and ensure child care workers taking care of our nation’s kids are paid livable wages.

Read more about my fight to expand access to affordable child care here.

I will never stop fighting to make the American Dream more accessible.

Having a home is a cornerstone of the American Dream. And today in New Hampshire, we urgently need creative solutions to lower sky-high housing costs, including innovative approaches to increasing the supply of homes in our state.

That’s why I’m proud to introduce the SUPPLY Act — bipartisan legislation that will make it easier for hardworking families in our state to access the American Dream.

Learn more about the SUPPLY Act legislation here.

ENDING CANCER AS WE KNOW IT

Before I took the oath to represent the people of New Hampshire in Congress, I served as a senior advisor at the White House, where I led the Unity Agenda for the Nation, dedicated to solving five big challenges, including ending cancer as we know it. That work continues today in Congress.

Together, we can end breast cancer as we know it.

This week, I was honored to wear the 6-0-3 jersey in the 17th annual Congressional Softball Game, where Members of Congress and members of the press battle it out on the softball field to raise funds and awareness for young women with breast cancer.

Learn more about the game and this important work here.

Thank you to the Prouty family for inspiring us all and giving us hope.

It was fantastic to be in Hanover for The Prouty, walking and biking alongside fellow Granite Staters in the fight against cancer.

Access to critical health care should not be a privilege. That’s why I am fighting with everything I’ve got to protect the healthcare that Granite Staters rely on.

ENSURING OUR VETERANS HAVE THE SUPPORT THEY NEED

Last week, I spent the afternoon with a group of truly extraordinary veterans from across New Hampshire who have come together in community through an amazing organization in Hollis called Operation Delta Dog

Image

Thank you to the incredible team at Operation Delta Dog for having me!

Each veteran I heard from shared the life-changing and life-saving impacts that service dogs have had on their lives, and I’m bringing every one of their ideas and voices to my work in Congress.

We owe a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay to America’s veterans.

I was humbled to stand with New Hampshire veterans, service members, and military families at Swim With A Mission’s Navy SEAL Gold Star Family Tribute Dinner.

We owe a sacred obligation to the women and men who serve our country in uniform.

I joined Swim With A Mission for an inspiring evening at their Navy SEAL Gold Star Family Tribute Dinner. It was an honor to witness and pay tribute to the rich history of the Navy SEALs and Gold Star Families. I am truly humbled to represent their voices in Congress.

PROTECTING YOUR CARE

Attacks against healthcare in the GOP budget bill — formally called H.R. 1 — touch every aspect of our health – from accessing care in rural areas to maintaining the freedom to make healthcare decisions for you and your family. I will never stop fighting to protect the care you and your family need.

ImageI recently met with the extraordinary team at VRH, together with key community healthcare partners, and heard first-hand about the devastating impact that GOP Medicaid cuts would have on their work and the hardworking people they serve.

The impacts of the GOP’s cuts to Medicaid are not hypothetical. They are real for real people right here in New Hampshire, including the patients who received care at the Franconia Health Center.

We should be expanding access to lifesaving healthcare, not eliminating it. I will never stop fighting to ensure our rural communities have the care they need.

Watch my full testimony in defense of reproductive freedom here.

This week, I testified in a bicameral spotlight hearing on the attacks against birth control access across the country.

Planned Parenthood is a deeply misunderstood organization that has been the target of rampant misinformation and attacks. The fact is that Planned Parenthood is on the frontlines of providing critical healthcare, including lifesaving cancer screenings, vaccinations, contraception, birth control, and so much more to people across New Hampshire.

While I was serving in the United States Navy Reserves, I relied on Planned Parenthood for the required cancer screenings to keep me mission-ready. I am proud to support their work providing care for those who need it most.

Watch my line of questioning to Planned Parenthood of Northern New England CEO, Nichole Clegg, on how misunderstood the services Planned Parenthood provides here.

Not only are attacks on reproductive freedom dangerous, they are also expensive. A provision of the GOP’s Big, Brutal Budget will cost American taxpayers $52 million by prohibiting Planned Parenthood from accepting Medicaid for the critical services it provides.

That’s bad for America. I will never stop fighting to restore reproductive freedom.

Watch my line of questioning about the impact of the GOP’s Big, Brutal Budget Bill on healthcare access here.

I’m so grateful for the inclusive work that Opportunity Networks is providing for Granite Staters.

Every Granite Stater deserves the opportunity to thrive. And that’s exactly what Opportunity Networks makes possible for people and families across our state.

I had a great visit with Senator Maggie Hassan in Amherst to see this incredible community in action.

Image

I will fight to protect the funding that allows Opportunity Networks to do their critical work.

From protecting Medicaid to delivering the federal funding that helps make their work possible, I am proud to be working on behalf of the people of Opportunity Networks in Congress.

FIGHTING FOR THE COMMON GOOD – THE PUBLIC GOOD

Part of what we are up against from the Trump Administration is attacks on all things public, from our public schools to public service to public media. But we are fighting back.

Image

The Supreme Court’s responsibility is to uphold the rule of law, not to break it. I will not rest until every dollar promised to the people of New Hampshire is delivered.

Public education is the lifeblood and ultimate safeguard of American democracy. The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump Administration to move forward with its attacks on the Department of Education was dead wrong. This is far from the end of this fight.

I’m using every tool we’ve got to protect and support our students and public schools, including working to secure the release of nearly $27 million in federal funding that was promised to New Hampshire and is being lawlessly withheld by the Trump Administration.

Read more about my work to protect public education here.

Public broadcasting plays a critical role in our communities and our country.

In the middle of the night, Republicans used a questionable procedural strategy to force through legislation that claws back billions in federal funding already appropriated by Congress for public broadcasting and more.

I was a hard no.

For more than sixty years, Congress has, on a bipartisan basis, supported public broadcasting by investing in the operations of more than 1,500 locally managed and operated public television and radio stations across America. In New Hampshire, NHPR and NH PBS are critical pillars of our democracy and way of life. Their journalists deliver local news independently without fear or favor. Their programming helps ensure our kids are successful in school and keeps our most rural communities engaged and informed, including in times of emergency.

That’s why I voted against this cruel and senseless bill and will never stop fighting to protect public media.

Watch my full reaction after the House passed legislation to claw back funding for public broadcasting here.

Learn more about the latest state of play on AmeriCorps funding from the Boston Globe here.

AmeriCorps is a quintessential American program. It gets important things done for the people of New Hampshire every single day — from our public schools to our public parks to the homes of seniors across our state who rely on AmeriCorps as a lifeline.

We are in a fight to protect AmeriCorps, and I will not rest until every penny promised to New Hampshire is delivered.

Learn more about my work fighting for AmeriCorps in New Hampshire here.

While we have had some victories — like restoring TRIO funding for New Hampshire and delivering some of the withheld public education funding — the fight continues, and we will never give up.
