Friends,

90 years ago this week, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. As we mark this anniversary, let me make one thing clear: Social Security is not a “Ponzi scheme.”  It is a bedrock promise that we’ve made to one another as Americans.

It was great to be with seniors at the Littleton Senior Center earlier this year.

We’ve got a lot of work to do to protect and strengthen Social Security in the days ahead, and I’m not backing down.

JOIN MY TOWN HALL ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20

I hope you’ll join me on Wednesday, August 20th, at 11:00 AM for a telephone town hall focused on Social Security with AARP New Hampshire.

I hope you will join us on Wednesday!

LOWERING YOUR COSTS

It’s been hotter than hell many a day this summer, and here in New Hampshire, we’ve got some of the highest energy costs in America.

Image

Read more about how New Hampshire energy prices compare to the rest of the country here.

I’m looking for ways to lower your costs every day in Congress – from securing federal funding for New Hampshire to championing legislation that will save you money.

Some good news this week: $2.8 million is heading to the Granite State to help hardworking families save money on their energy bills.

Image

$2.8 million in federal funds for hardworking families will be delivered to New Hampshire.

I’m also helping to lead bipartisan legislation that will help you save on your energy bills.

I will never stop fighting to lower energy costs for you and your families.

Read more about this legislation and my work to put money back in your pocket here.

But here’s a question: if the Trump Administration is serious about lowering costs, why cut the essential programs that are doing just that?

I won’t back down.

Tens of thousands of families across New Hampshire are relying on a critical federal program called LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), to keep their homes cool.

Image
Read more about this work to protect energy assistance here.

The Trump Administration’s effort to gut this program is downright dangerous, and that’s why I’m helping lead a bipartisan coalition in Congress to prevent these senseless cuts.

Image

If the Trump Administration is serious about lowering costs for hardworking Americans, why cut the essential programs aimed at doing just that?

This week, I sent a letter to U.S. Department of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin opposing the Trump administration’s move to end the Solar for All program and unlawfully rescind the existing grant for New Hampshire. If the EPA terminates this grant from the Inflation Reduction Act, New Hampshire would lose over $43.5 million to help reduce energy costs for Granite State communities and families who need it most.

Read our letter here.

At a moment when prices are already sky-high, President Trump’s tariffs are jacking up costs for hardworking people and making life a heck of a lot harder for our small businesses.

Read more about how President Trump’s tariffs are driving up inflation here.

Here’s the reality: when the President imposes tariffs on goods that simply cannot be produced domestically, he’s not protecting American industry – he’s jacking up costs for hardworking Americans and threatening to drive small businesses out of business.

Last week, I joined Cole Morgan of Nashua’s own Coffee & Kindness for a conversation about the real-world impact of tariffs on our small businesses.

Watch more of our conversation here.

The Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the authority to impose tariffs. I am working with every tool I’ve got to end the chaos and lower costs for New Hampshire.

In Congress, I’m helping lead legislation like the CANADA Act. This bipartisan bill will ensure our hardworking small businesses don’t have to pay for President Trump’s costly, chaotic, and lawless trade war with Canada. Read more about the bipartisan CANADA Act here.

I filed a legal brief challenging the President’s sweeping and unlawful tariffs.

This fight is far from over, and I will never stop working to lower costs for you and your family.

CHECKING THE POWER OF BIG CORPORATIONS

No one does democracy like we do in New Hampshire.  But big corporations – from Big Pharma to Big Ag to Big Oil – have way too much power in America today. The fact is big corporations have hijacked our campaign finance system for far too long.

Today, I’m one of the few Members of Congress who has never taken a penny from a corporate PAC.

That’s not right, and I’m doing something about it.

Image

I will never take money from Corporate PACs and will continue fighting to ensure your voice determines our future, not special interests.

The Ban Corporate PACs Act is a commonsense place to start, and that’s why I’m proud to help lead it. Read more about this legislation here.

KEEPING NEW HAMPSHIRE SAFE

New Hampshire is in a “flash flood hotspot” zone.  Flooding is one of the top natural hazards in our state.

As we’ve seen time and again, a reliable emergency notification service can be the difference between life and death.

Image

I will always stand with our first responders as they protect our communities. Read more about New Hampshire first responders' emergency preparations here.

That’s why I’m helping to lead the Weather Alert, Response and Notification (WARN) Act, bipartisan legislation to modernize, strengthen, and update our critical emergency infrastructure.

Read more about this legislation and how it will protect the safety of Granite Staters here.

New Hampshire firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.

Image

I was honored to join firefighters and first responders at the Plymouth Fire Department to discuss how we can work together to ensure our first responders get the support they need.

In Congress, I’m working to ensure these true American heroes get the best possible training, and the National Fire Academy plays a critical role in making that possible.

Learn more about this legislation from NBC5 here.

That’s why I’m proud to help lead the National Fire Academy Reporting Act, which will require the Academy to provide an annual report of its activities to Congress and ensure we have the information we need to fully support our firefighters.

Thank you to our first responders – I will never stop fighting for you and your safety.

New Hampshire could not function without our local leaders and administrators.

In the seven months since I started this job, I’ve met with local partners in towns and cities across New Hampshire – from Nashua to Berlin, Salem to Swanzey, Concord to Claremont, Litchfield to Lebanon to Littleton, Hudson to Hanover, to Franklin to Keene, and many more. I’m proud to be their partner in Congress.

FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM

When you swear an oath to protect and defend our great Constitution, you don’t take the oath as a Democrat or a Republican. You take that oath as an American.

Our Constitution has more to say about protecting the right to vote than just about anything else. But Pete Hegseth continues to disgrace us all.

Image

Read more about Secretary Hegseth’s disgraceful move here.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: that man is unfit to serve in any position of public trust. He has no business being America’s Defense Secretary and he should be removed immediately.

Watch me grill Pete Hegseth here.

Read my reaction in the Military Times here.

Meanwhile, the Trump Administration’s assault on our basic freedoms has escalated again. The President is now trying to impose an abortion ban under which veterans and servicemembers in states across America may be forced to carry pregnancies to term even if they were raped or the pregnancy puts their health at risk.

Image

Read more from the Washington Post here.

That’s not right.  And that’s why I’m helping lead the Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act – a commonsense bill that will ensure those who fight for our freedoms have the freedom to get the healthcare they need without interference.

Learn more about this legislation and my work to protect your freedoms here.

As a daughter of the Live Free or Die State, I know we cannot be truly free without control over our own bodies.  When I was serving as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve, I was a proud patient of Planned Parenthood – a deeply misunderstood organization that offers so much more than just abortion care.

Simply put, Planned Parenthood is a lifeline for women and men across New Hampshire – from lifesaving cancer screenings and vaccinations to contraception and vasectomy care.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

ImageAt the State Veterans Advisory Committee Picnic in Manchester, it was an honor to talk to veterans from across New Hampshire about delivering on what matters most to them. From lowering costs to expanding access to healthcare, I’m proud to bring their voices and priorities to Congress every day.
