Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Friends,

This past week marked 24 years since September 11, 2001—the deadliest terrorist attack against the American people on American soil in my lifetime.

Image

We are the land of the free because of generations of brave Americans.

I spent this solemn day at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, a hallowed place where you cannot help but feel pride to be an American because there you are among the Patriots who gave their lives for our country and for every one of us.

Hear the final playing of “Taps” for 100 Nights of Remembrance and my reflection at the New Hampshire Veterans Ceremony here.

The number 24 loomed large on September 11, 2025. It marked 24 years since these brutal attacks on our country and 24 hours after the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie’s assassination is not an isolated incident — it is part of a deeply disturbing and truly anti-American pattern of violence that has savaged nearly every community across our country.

I am praying for Charlie Kirk and every single American who has felt the pain of this intolerable violence.

What America needs now is unity – unified condemnation of this violence and unified action to bring an end to the death and destruction that is tearing our country apart. We need to summon the spirit that guided us through those dark days after September 11, 2001. When we came together, mourned together, worked together, and grew stronger together. That is what I’m working towards every day as your Congresswoman.

Here in the Live Free or Die state, we know that our freedom is not free – it is hard-won on the backs of patriotic Americans who gave everything for our country.

It was an honor to be at the Hudson VFW Post 5791 Veterans Appreciation Picnic this past weekend. The bravery and sacrifice of these Granite Staters and their families represent the best of America.

STANDING UP FOR OUR NATIONAL SECURITY

I want to give you an update on an important piece of legislation for our Armed Forces and national security: the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Image

I spoke on the House Floor, urging my colleagues to leave politics at the door and maintain the integrity of the NDAA. Watch my full remarks here.

As I said on the House Floor last week, I came to Congress to work on serious, bipartisan legislation that will actually make a difference for New Hampshire. That’s also why I wanted to serve on the House Armed Services Committee, the body responsible for drafting and passing the NDAA.

For months, my colleagues and I have been diligently working on the NDAA, debating provisions and drafting amendments to create the best possible bill for the common good. No one gets everything they want, but every issue is weighed carefully.

And that’s what we passed out of the House Armed Services Committee with an overwhelming, bipartisan majority: 55-2.

Unfortunately, as it stands after dozens of hyperpartisan amendments were jammed into the bill, the NDAA does not represent the long tradition of bipartisanship, nor a fair deal for our Armed Forces, military families, or our national security.

But our work on this is far from over. The next step for the NDAA process is something called a “conference committee,” where leaders from both the United States House and the United States Senate come together to debate and build one final, identical package that will pass both chambers.

I remain committed to seeing this through to the end and making this a bill that delivers for our servicemembers and their families.

Here’s what I’m working to do:

  • Protect and defend America’s shipyard workers, including the dedicated public servants of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

  • Support our firefighters, air traffic controllers, and correctional officers who put themselves in harm’s way every single day to keep us safe.

  • Secure the right for our Armed Forces to repair their own equipment, finally ending corporate monopolies that are jacking up costs and making us less safe.

Image
One of the provisions I fought to include in the NDAA is to guarantee the United States Armed Forces’ right to repair its own equipment. Learn more about that effort here.

Union Leader: Goodlander sponsors bill to guarantee soldiers’ right to repair equipment.

I’m also working to make sure the Department of Defense passes a clean audit – any institution that demands the public trust must pass a clean audit. Period.

Image

Another provision I fought to include in the NDAA is to require the Department of Defense to pass a clean audit. Learn more about that effort here.

In the NDAA and beyond, I am also fighting for policies to protect our land from potential national threats.

Anytime we see a foreign adversary or competitor buy up land near sensitive American facilities, our communities need to know if it poses any threats to our economy or national security. That’s what the Critical Infrastructure Security Act does.

Image

I spoke to WMUR about my concerns with the Nongfu Springs purchase in Nashua. Watch my full conversation here.

This legislation would provide greater oversight and protection for critical American infrastructure from foreign interference, including infrastructure related to drinking water.

I will continue pushing to get the answers needed to keep our communities safe.

Image

It’s beyond unacceptable that more than 25% of our servicemembers can’t afford the food they need.

I am also working to deliver the resources military families need.

Our Armed Forces cannot complete their critical mission if they can’t feed themselves and their families. Food costs across America are sky-high, and America’s servicemembers are paying the price. Today, more than a quarter of people serving in our Armed Forces can’t afford to put the food they need on the table.

That’s not right. And that’s why I’m working to get the Military Food Security Act of 2025 signed into law to remove an unintended barrier that prevents some military families from qualifying for the food assistance they need.

Learn more about this legislation, which would help our military families have better access to affordable and healthy food.

KEEPING OUR COMMUNITIES SAFE

Image
The American heroes I met this past week from Weare Fire & Rescue, the Loudon Fire Department, and the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact put their lives on the line every day to keep us all safe. Thank you.

You deserve to feel safe in your community – whether it’s taking your family to school or church, or knowing someone’s got your back in an emergency like a fire or extreme weather. That’s what our firefighters and first responders do every single day.

It’s way past time to cut the red tape and deliver the resources New Hampshire’s firefighters and first responders need to do their mission-critical jobs safely and effectively. That’s what I’m fighting for in Congress.

Read more about the legislation I was proud to help pass to deliver more mental health resources to America’s pilots from CNN here.

We put an incredible amount of trust in and pressure on America’s pilots to keep us safe in the air. It is outrageous that federal policies have been blocking America’s pilots from getting the healthcare they need, and I was proud to help pass a commonsense, bipartisan bill to overhaul those outdated and dangerous policies.

Healthcare is a human right, and I won’t stop working in every way I can to protect your healthcare.

31 years ago, the Violence Against Women Act was signed into law, transforming pain into power. When I worked at the Justice Department, I saw firsthand how this law has empowered millions of women across America. Now, as your Congresswoman, I’m working to protect and strengthen it.

Today and every day, I stand with survivors.

PROTECTING YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

The Supreme Court’s unsigned order on recent ICE raids in Los Angeles offered no explanation or justification.

That's not right.

Image

Our communities and our Constitution demand more.

One of the main concerns I've heard from people across New Hampshire – including from law enforcement officials – is the fear and distrust that masked individuals are sowing in our communities.

That’s why I cosponsored the No Secret Police Act, H.R. 4176, legislation requiring law enforcement officers and agents of the DHS to display identification and insignia when detaining or arresting individuals and to prohibit them from wearing face coverings or any item that conceals their face during detentions or arrests.

Since taking the oath of office, I have stood up to President Trump’s unconstitutional efforts against birthright citizenship, free speech, and due process. I will never back down from protecting your constitutional rights.

When it comes to the fundamental protections of our Constitution, I will not surrender an inch.

ENSURING OUR SMALL BUSINESSES HAVE THE TOOLS TO INNOVATE

Image

Hear more about how I’m fighting for New Hampshire’s small businesses in Congress HERE.

This past week, I was proud to help deliver a big win for New Hampshire in the Small Business Committee by extending critical research and technology funding for the beating heart of our economy: New Hampshire’s small businesses and innovators.

Image

It was great to join other supporters of American small businesses and innovators this past week at the Defend SBIR event on Capitol Hill.

When we talk about equipping our small businesses with the tools they need to innovate, we’re talking about the SBIR Program.

I’m proud to support the crucial programs that help our small businesses thrive and to fight to cut unnecessary red tape and deliver every penny of federal funding promised to New Hampshire.

In a room full of America’s small business owners and employees, including New Hampshire’s own Dr. Jay C. Rozzi from Creare, I was proud to discuss my work to cut red tape.

THE FIGHT TO LOWER YOUR COSTS

Image
Read about how President Trump’s lawless trade wars are hurting your wallet in CNBC here.

The data does not lie: you are paying the price for President Trump’s lawless and chaotic trade wars.

Let me be clear: tariffs can be a powerful tool of freedom and fairness. But when they are wielded without any regard for what it means for the people on the ground, they are incredibly dangerous. And we are seeing that play out in real time.

In the months since Trump announced his lawless tariff plan, hardworking families have been feeling the pain in every part of their lives and every day in their wallets: from gas to groceries, to healthcare, to housing, and everything in between.

Image

Trump’s lawless trade wars are costing New Hampshire families an average of $2,400 this year alone. Read more from the Yale Budget Lab here.

At bottom, tariffs are a tax, and the American people are footing the bill. At a time when prices are already sky-high, the last thing you and your family need is more uncertainty and higher costs.

That’s why I am fighting back and using every tool I have to lower costs for you and your family.

Image

New Hampshire’s early childhood educators and childcare providers are the custodians of America’s future: our kids.

Everywhere I go, I hear about the child care crisis. Hardworking people can’t find the care they need, and when they can, they can’t afford it. We have got to do better.

At Nashua Community College, I spent time with an extraordinary group of educators, providers, and advocates at the Child Care Aware of New Hampshire’s Keys to Quality Conference. I also heard from parents who are feeling the pain of the sky-high costs of care.

We are united in our mission: supporting our providers and expanding access to affordable, high-quality education for every kid in New Hampshire. That’s what I’m working toward in Congress.

Learn about my work in Congress to expand access to affordable childcare and support childcare workers across the Granite State here.

Image

Read more here from the Financial Times about how health insurers are raising insurance premiums by the most in 15 years – in part due to President Trump’s lawless trade wars.

The painful price of President Trump’s historic healthcare cuts is clear: historic increases in the cost of our healthcare.

Image
Learn more about Jen’s story here.

The impacts of these cuts are real to real people right here in New Hampshire. People like Jen. After being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2019, she saw her enhanced premium tax credits go from $950 a month to $300 because of the Affordable Care Act. But now, Republicans are going after the very programs that make healthcare more affordable.

Image

That’s why I was proud to help lead the Health Care Affordability Act, legislation that will make the popular tax credits permanent and save hardworking families money.
