Friends,

We are hours away from a senseless, costly government shutdown. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Just over a week ago, I voted for a commonsense budget that would keep our government open, protect healthcare for people across New Hampshire, lower sky-high costs, and restore to Congress the basic constitutional responsibilities that the President has lawlessly ripped away.

Republicans blocked that commonsense budget and senselessly left town. If Republicans keep refusing to do their jobs, they will cause the government to shut down in just a matter of hours.

I have called on Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to come to the table and work with Democrats to avoid a shutdown. He’s refused.

Read my letter to Speaker Johnson here.

The solution to this crisis already exists. I urge my Republican colleagues to come to their senses and put the American people first. I stand ready and willing to work with anyone who will work with me to end this crisis and fund our government in a way that delivers for hardworking families, not billionaires and big corporations.

LOWERING YOUR SKY-HIGH HEALTHCARE COSTS

The government funding fight touches every part of our country and your lives, including you. Everywhere I go, I hear about the sky-high costs of healthcare.

Hardworking families cannot find the care they need when they need it because costs are too high, there are not enough providers to meet the demand, and healthcare deserts have left our rural communities in desperate situations. Giant companies are sucking the system dry, and patients are falling through the cracks.

We are living through the most brutal and relentless attack on New Hampshire’s community health centers in American history. By making the biggest cuts to healthcare in American history, the GOP has already forced three community health centers in New Hampshire to close, and families are seeing their prices rise.

Health centers like Lamprey Health Care in Nashua are integral to the health of our great state.

The impacts of the historic Republican healthcare cuts are not hypothetical. The pain and devastation are real for patients, providers, and places like Lamprey Health Care in Nashua.

I will never stop fighting for community health centers.

I had an important conversation this past week at Lamprey Health Care in Nashua about how gutting healthcare is raising your already sky-high costs and forcing hardworking Americans to make impossible choices that no person should have to make.

Thank you to the extraordinary team at HealthFirst in Franklin. I am inspired by your commitment to community.

While big healthcare corporations put profits over We the People, non-profit community health centers are working to deliver us the healthcare we need when and where we need it.

That’s what I saw firsthand this past week in Franklin during my visit to HealthFirst. And that’s why I’m working with every tool I’ve got in Congress to protect and strengthen New Hampshire’s community health centers.

I will never give up on protecting your healthcare – not in the government funding fight or any other.

STANDING UP TO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S SENSELESS TRADE WARS

Trump’s lawless trade wars are hurting your wallet. Read more from Axios here.

Since the start of Donald Trump’s lawless trade wars, I’ve challenged his unlawful tariffs in court by filing legal briefs and have helped introduce multiple pieces of legislation to protect hardworking New Hampshire families, farmers, and small businesses from the chaos.

Read about how Trump’s lawless trade wars are increasing the cost of your daily cup from The Hill.

The President’s unilateral tax on coffee has jacked up the cost of a cup for more than 200 million Americans who drink coffee.

That’s why I introduced a commonsense, bipartisan bill that will cut this senseless tax that you're paying every day.

Read more about the CANADA Act here.

I am also leading the Creating Access to Necessary American-Canadian Duty Adjustments (CANADA) Act, legislation that would exempt United States-owned small businesses from tariffs imposed on Canada by President Trump.

Hardworking small businesses shouldn’t have to pay for President Trump's costly, chaotic, and lawless trade war with Canada.

FIGHTING FOR THE FEDERAL FUNDING PROMISED TO OUR STUDENTS

At bottom, the government funding fight is about getting you a fair deal and stopping the Republicans’ blanket efforts to rip the American people off and give a handout to giant corporations and billionaires instead of a handup to families who really need it.

Read more about the Trump administration’s senseless decision to cut education funding for New Hampshire students in the Concord Monitor here.

I heard that firsthand this past week, when I hosted a roundtable at Franklin Middle School with students, educators, parents, principals, superintendents, school board members, and advocates from across New Hampshire who have been devastated by the Trump Administration’s decisions to gut millions in education funding promised to communities across New Hampshire.

Hear how these education programs have changed the lives of New Hampshire students from WCAX here.

The lives of thousands of Granite Staters across generations have been changed for the better because of the very programs that the Trump Administration has put on the chopping block.

These cuts are truly tragic and utterly senseless. They are hurting communities that are counting on us most — from Franklin to Stewartstown, Claremont to Lisbon, Pittsfield to Berlin, and Newport to Nashua.

I will not rest until every penny of federal funding promised to New Hampshire is delivered.

I want to end this week’s newsletter with a moment of gratitude for our Gold Star families.

We owe a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay to America’s veterans and military families.

This week, on Gold Star Mother's and Family Day, we recognize the brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, and the military families who have lost loved ones. Our servicemembers, veterans, and military families represent the best of us — their grit, heart, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
