Friends,

We are in the middle of a cost crisis right here in New Hampshire and all across the country. Everything from groceries to gas to energy to healthcare and housing is too expensive, and it’s keeping the American Dream out of reach. I hear it everywhere I go, and it’s why, as your Congresswoman, I am laser-focused on lowering your costs.

This week, the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute published a report confirming what every hardworking Granite Stater already knows: the economic pain and struggle our country is facing is existential.

Image

Read the full report here.

The data is clear: the typical family in New Hampshire falls nearly $2,000 short annually just covering basic costs.

Over the past two decades, the costs of basic essentials have skyrocketed: food costs are up 72%, medical costs are up 67%, and housing costs are up 62%. Meanwhile, wages are just not keeping pace.

Image

We have to do better by hardworking families.

We can and must fix our broken economy and build a system that works for you and your family. That starts by ending this senseless government shutdown and reversing Republican cuts to your healthcare.

Image

Watch my interview with WMUR here.

While the shutdown continues, no Member of Congress should collect a paycheck while federal public servants pay the price.

Image

I sent a letter to the House Administrator refusing my paycheck before the shutdown began.

I’m refusing my paycheck while the government is shut down, and I am pushing for commonsense legislation to ensure no member of Congress gets paid until we reopen the government.

I'm working with everything I’ve got to bring my Republican colleagues to the negotiating table to reopen the government, protect the healthcare you and your family rely on, and lower costs across the board.

I will never give up this fight. And, while Republicans keep the House of Representatives closed, please know that our office is here and working for you. Be in touch by calling 603-226-1002 or visiting Goodlander.House.Gov.

FIGHTING TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTHCARE

New Hampshire’s public servants are paying the price for our broken healthcare system and the GOP’s historic cuts to it in H.R. 1, their Big, Brutal Budget.

Image

New Hampshire could not function without our local leaders and administrators.

During my visit with community leaders and elected officials in Milford earlier this week, I heard about the devastating impact of SchoolCare asking our public schools and communities to cover a $30 million gap because healthcare costs have increased so drastically.

We had a wide-ranging discussion about how we can work together to lower healthcare costs and deliver for hardworking families.

Let me be very clear: no matter how you get your healthcare, your costs are going up because of the GOP’s Big, Brutal Budget. I’m working with every tool I’ve got to fix our broken system, protect your care, and lower your costs that are rising across the board.

ImageHealth-related costs are going up across the board, including a 323% increase in healthcare deductibles since 2005. Read the full NHFPI report here.

These Republican cuts come as America was already dealing with a broken healthcare system. Since 2005, healthcare deductibles have increased a staggering 323%. This financial burden means that most people in our state – more than 70% – are delaying or going without the healthcare they need.

Instead of working for families, the GOP’s Big, Brutal Budget is prioritizing billionaires and big corporations, including by costing American taxpayers an astonishing $8.8 billion by eliminating Medicare’s authority to negotiate with Big Pharma and lower costs for you and your family.

People over profits – not the other way around.

Any time a corporation puts profits over people’s basic health and safety, there needs to be accountability. That’s why I am helping to lead an investigation into Genesis HealthCare's private equity bankruptcy. Genesis appears to be attempting to use our bankruptcy system to escape liability, leaving people and businesses in the lurch.

People over profits - not the other way around.

The families devastated by Genesis HealthCare deserve answers, and I won’t stop until I get them.

Mental health is healthcare. Period.

We owe a sacred debt to our nation’s veterans.

I cannot think of a more worthy cause than Operation Delta Dog. This past week, I joined them to honor the work that they do to connect our brave veterans with service dogs who deliver life-saving and life-changing care.

Image

Read more about my visit with Operation Delta Dog earlier this year in the Union Leader.

I’m working with everything I’ve got to harness all the support for veterans I can from the United States Congress.

Watch my reflection of the truly life-changing work Operation Delta Dog is doing here.

When mental health challenges go unaddressed, they can often lead people to substance abuse and addiction. Access to substance abuse and mental health resources is critical and essential, yet the Trump Administration continues to attack access to these services.

Image

We must return these employees to their lifesaving work.

This week, Congressman Chris Pappas and I joined forces with dozens of our colleagues in Congress to call on Secretary Kennedy to reverse mass layoffs that have decimated essential staff at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). These public servants must be returned to their life-saving work immediately.

You are not alone.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recommit to supporting and fighting for our loved ones touched by cancer.

Before taking the oath of office, I served in the White House, where I led the Unity Agenda for the Nation, dedicated to solving big challenges that unite all Americans, including ending cancer as we know it. Breast cancer has touched nearly every family across our country, including my own. As your Congresswoman, I am fighting to protect the treatments and research that are saving lives.

Image

In July, I had the honor of participating in the Prouty – walking and biking alongside fellow Granite Staters in the fight against cancer.

Screening and diagnostic services are offered at many healthcare sites throughout New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services’ Breast and Cervical Cancer Program is here to help.

For more information and resources on where to receive screening and diagnostic services, visit their website here.

HAVE YOUR HEALTHCARE COSTS GONE UP?

Please share your story with me at Goodlander.House.Gov/Story.

Across New Hampshire, hardworking people are feeling the pain of skyrocketing healthcare costs thanks to the GOP’s Big, Brutal Budget.

I am using every tool I have to fight back and lower your costs, and I need your help.

If your healthcare costs have already gone up or if you got a letter from your insurance provider notifying you of higher prices to come, please share your story at Goodlander.House.Gov/Story.

MAKING NEW HAMPSHIRE HOMES AFFORDABLE AGAIN

Having a home is a cornerstone of the American Dream. As a lifelong Granite Stater and former police officer recently put it: “Homeownership means the freedom to bring my own ideas to life.  It’s about the pride that comes with owning something—a home to return to and share with my family.

Today in New Hampshire, the dream of having a home is out of reach for almost everyone.

As New Hampshire Housing makes clear in an important new report issued this week, 4 out of 5 homeowners in New Hampshire are priced out of our state’s median sale price of $565,000.

Buying a home is an economic impossibility for 96% of renters in our state today.

And low inventory is driving sky-high costs.

In Congress, I’m doing everything I can to find creative solutions to the current housing crisis.  We’ve got to be pursuing new, innovative ideas to build the tens of thousands of new homes New Hampshire needs to make housing affordable in our state. That’s exactly what Mike Danis and his team at Tiny Houses of New Hampshire in Lyndeborough are doing.

Image

Proud to stand with Tiny Houses of NH and think through innovative approaches to the urgent housing crisis in New Hampshire.

Image

Tiny Houses of New Hampshire is offering a more affordable alternative for homeownership for hardworking families, with many beautiful homes costing about one-fifth of what an average home in the state costs.

But, we are not going to be able to solve the housing crisis if the President of the United States cuts off opportunities at the knees.

Image

President Trump’s senseless trade wars are raising costs for you and your family.

President Trump’s unilateral taxes on American homebuilders (tariffs on timber and other key materials) at precisely the moment that we need them to be building is a senseless step backward for our housing industry. I am working to end the chaos of the President’s trade wars and give hardworking families the support they need.

Let me be clear: Tariffs are a powerful tool of economic statecraft – but when they’re wielded without any regard for what it means for the people on the ground, they are incredibly dangerous.

Granite Staters are paying the price for President Trump’s trade war – that’s why I am fighting back in Congress and in the courts to lower your costs and check this administration.

A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE IS KEY TO LOWERING COSTS

Granite Staters face some of the highest energy costs in America. As families head into winter, the fight for affordable and reliable energy becomes a matter of immediate urgency.

President Trump’s extreme cuts to clean energy investments in H.R. 1, the GOP’s Big, Brutal Bill, are an attack on working families, our economy, America’s leadership in the world, and our planet.

Cutting support for clean energy projects is a reckless own goal that drives up costs and shuts down innovation when we can least afford it.

For example, in towns like Windham, H.R. 1 eliminates solar projects that would have generated tens of thousands of dollars a year in savings for taxpayers by removing the modest credits that make clean energy competitive.

Image

Energy prices are sky-high, and the work of local partners like the Windham Local Energy Committee has never been more important.

Image

My top priority is lowering your costs across the board.

Governing is a team effort, and the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission plays a key role in the fight to lower your energy costs and deliver a fair deal to every Granite Stater. Right now, New Hampshire is looking for the next person to fill this impactful role, so share this information with someone excellent!

Image

Visit this page to learn more about the position.

I am also working to keep your water and energy costs down by relaying important public safety information: New Hampshire is in the middle of a drought, and the state Department of Environmental Services wants to know if your well has run dry.

You can report your dry well using a form on the agency's website—www.des.nh.gov—and clicking on the drought link.

Image

Check for signs that your well is running dry: sputtering faucet, muddy or discolored tap water, or changes to the water's smell or taste.

The fight to lower your energy and utility bills continues. If you need help paying your energy bills, call 2-1-1 or visit 211nh.org for assistance.

KEEPING NEW HAMPSHIRE SAFE

Our public servants and first responders are on the frontlines of keeping our communities safe.

I had the opportunity to talk with leaders from the New Hampshire Department of Safety, including Robert Buxton, Mark Doyle, and our Fire Marshal Sean Toomey, about the importance of funding for 9-1-1 services and cutting the red tape that is putting these services at risk.

Image

Thank you to the dedicated public servants I met at New Hampshire’s Incident Planning and Operations Center for keeping our communities safe.

I was moved by my conversations with the men and women of 911 New Hampshire. Their service, bravery, knowledge, and emotional fortitude are mission-critical to answer more than 1,500 emergency 911 calls every day and deliver the essential emergency services we need when we need them and where we need them across our state.

Image

The incredible team at NH DOT is working around the clock to keep New Hampshire safe. For more information on NHDOT’s essential work, please check out their website.

I also visited the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and the New England 5-1-1 team, who work tirelessly using advanced technology to respond to emergencies on our highways and keep New Hampshire’s roads safe.

Image

Leaders like Alexandria Police Chief David Suckling are on the frontlines of keeping our communities safe every day.

And I spent time with Police Chiefs from across our state at the New Hampshire Police Academy. I’m working every day in Congress to make sure our police officers have the tools they need to keep New Hampshire safe, including by recruiting and retaining the best talent, achieving best practices, and, above all, building enduring trust with the people we serve.

I came away from these conversations with a long list of action items, and I’m proud to champion the work of New Hampshire’s first responders and public safety professionals in Congress.

STANDING UP FOR AMERICA'S NATIONAL SECURITY

As a former intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve and Deputy Assistant Attorney General, my commitment to upholding the rule of law and the integrity of America’s Armed Forces is absolute.

There are no kings in America.

That is why I am helping to lead the Insurrection Act of 2025 to reform the 1807 act and implement checks on the President’s authority to deploy American troops into American cities and against American citizens. We must prevent the abuse of our Armed Forces for political purposes and uphold the long American commitment to keeping the military out of domestic law enforcement.

My commitment to our Constitution means demanding accountability and transparency.

Image

I questioned Secretary Hegseth about his refusal to commit to following orders of the United States Supreme Court. Watch here.

American taxpayers need to know how their nearly $1 trillion taxpayer dollars are being spent by the Department of Defense and what our military is doing to fulfill its sacred obligation to keep us safe. We need answers from Secretary Hegseth about the lethal strikes on boats in the Caribbean Sea—we need justification and transparency.

But answers to these critical questions cannot happen while Speaker Mike Johnson continues to refuse to reopen the House of Representatives. I am continuing to call on Speaker Mike Johnson to immediately bring the United States House of Representatives back into session to end this senseless government shutdown and get the answers we need to protect our national security.

PROTECTING THE AMERICAN DREAM & YOUR RIGHTS

America is a nation of immigrants, and the decision to become an American is an act of faith – faith in the ideas that are at the heart of our Constitution and in We the People of the United States.

This past week, I witnessed one of the most profound and powerful affirmations of the American promise: the naturalization ceremony. It was profoundly moving to watch so many incredible individuals take the sacred oath of our Constitution in the very same courtroom where I took the oath to serve as your Congresswoman.

I am grateful to our newest fellow Americans for keeping the faith and choosing America and New Hampshire to call home. We the People are the only keepers of our Constitution, and you are forever part of our American story.

Image

To our newest fellow Americans: Thank you for choosing New Hampshire.

Proud to have inspiring partners like Eva Castillo to help our newest fellow Americans get settled and know their rights. Learn more about your rights here.

We cannot and will not give an inch when it comes to the fundamental rights of our neighbors – from the right to vote to the right to equal treatment under the law. I was honored and moved to join the NAACP’s Greater Nashua Area Branch this past week to recognize this extraordinary organization’s leaders and the fierce urgency of now.

Image

Thank you to the Greater Nashua Area Branch of the NAACP for protecting the hard-fought progress we have made for civil rights and individual freedom.

I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for what the NAACP is doing for New Hampshire, and I am proud to be a lifetime member of this extraordinary organization.

Protecting voting rights remains top of mind as the Supreme Court considers a landmark challenge to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Every freedom-loving American should watch this case very closely.

ELECTIONS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4

The right to vote is the right from which all of our rights as Americans flow.

And on November 4, 2025, communities across New Hampshire will head to the polls to vote in local elections.

Make a plan to vote, check your registration status, and more: www.sos.nh.gov/elections/register-vote.
