January 13, 2026

Friends,

This past week, I was back in our nation’s Capitol fighting to protect what matters most: your prosperity, your safety, and your freedom.

It’s the honor of my lifetime to represent the people of New Hampshire in Congress – please know that our team is here to support you. Be in touch by calling 603-226-1002 or visiting Goodlander.House.Gov.

Protecting the Healthcare You and Your Family Rely On

Healthcare costs are a matter of life or death for families across New Hampshire. That’s why, since day one on the job, I’ve been working to cut sky-high costs that are crushing hardworking Granite Staters.

Image

I joined Bloomberg TV to talk about my vote to extend the ACA tax credits and save healthcare for people across NH. Watch here.

This past week, after months of stonewalling by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced tax credits for three more years.

These tax credits are the difference between life and death for tens of thousands of Granite Staters. I worked across the aisle to help get this done because protecting healthcare shouldn’t be partisan. I will never stop working to save your healthcare, lower costs, and deliver real results for New Hampshire.

Why does this matter? Last year, when Republicans forced through H.R. 1, their Big Brutal Budget, they enacted the biggest cuts to healthcare in American history. Since then, I have heard from people across our state about the devastating and catastrophic impact these cuts will and are having on their lives.

Image

Hardworking people in New Hampshire can’t afford bills that are skyrocketing by 100s of dollars every month, and that’s what Becca from Concord is up against. Listen to her story here.

Small businesses are facing skyrocketing premiums for their workers, being forced to choose between paying for healthcare and raising their prices. Rural health centers and critical access hospitals are left with no choice but to turn patients away or take on massive amounts of debt.

Image

Stories like Lisa’s – which you can watch here – are all too real for hardworking Americans across New Hampshire because of the GOP’s assault on your healthcare in the Big, Brutal Budget.

Providers and doctors are watching their patients forgo needed care because they cannot afford it. And families are left with the impossible decision of choosing between putting food on the table and taking their kids to the doctor.

Image

Michelle from Henniker inspires me every day. She is why I will never give up the fight to protect lifesaving healthcare for our fellow Americans. Listen to her story here.

The pain is real, the impact is real, and that’s why I am fighting back.

Want to know how the GOP’s healthcare cuts are crushing hardworking Americans? Listen to Claudia, John, and Alice from Peterborough here.

The bill we passed this past week in the House is an important first step to prevent the death spiral that these cuts will have on New Hampshire. But it alone is not enough. I am also proud to be a part of a bipartisan coalition of Members working together to protect the healthcare that Granite Staters rely on and tackle the core drivers of this healthcare cost crisis.

Read more about our CommonGround for the Affordable Care Act here.

Our plan would protect American taxpayers by implementing new guardrails to prevent healthcare fraud and lower costs by cracking down on abuses of Big Pharma and middlemen PBMs, including by banning abusive “spread pricing” in Medicaid and securing basic accountability and long-overdue transparency around how prescription drug costs are set.

This fight to lower your costs and fix our broken healthcare system is far from over, and I’ll keep you updated every step of the way. For real-time updates, I hope you’ll follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube.

Standing Up for Science

Since President Trump took office, his Administration has taken a hammer to decades of scientific research. But I refuse to stand by and let that happen. And, our tireless advocacy is paying off.

Image

Read our full amicus brief in defense of NIH research funding here.

Some good news from this past week: After relentless advocacy, a federal court ruled that NIH research funding appropriated by Congress cannot be randomly gutted by the President.

These reckless cuts would have shut down labs, stalled clinical trials, and put lives at risk.

This ruling is a win for science, for patients, and for the rule of law, and came after I filed a legal brief in the case challenging the Trump Administration’s unlawful effort to cut indirect cost reimbursements for NIH-funded research.

Congress was clear: NIH research funding cannot be gutted by the whims of a President. These reckless cuts would have shut down labs, stalled clinical trials, and put lives at risk. I will never stop fighting to protect lifesaving medical research and to hold this Administration accountable when it breaks the law.

But our work is far from over.

Read my full letter to Secretary Kennedy demanding he restore the childhood vaccine schedule here.

No American should ever die from a preventable disease, and vaccines save lives. American pediatricians who are on the frontlines caring for America’s kids have been clear: the Trump Administration’s downright dangerous decision to overhaul decades of evidence-based science will make it harder for our kids to get the healthcare they need and will needlessly put lives at risk.

This past week, I sent a letter to Secretary Kennedy demanding he restore the childhood vaccine schedule and prevent confusion, chaos, and high costs from hurting our kids.

The bottom line: Secretary Kennedy needs to go so commonsense can return to public health in America.

Lowering the Sky-High Cost of Housing

Having a home is a cornerstone of the American Dream. But today in New Hampshire, the dream of having a home is out of reach for almost everyone.

Image

I am proud to be leading the SUPPLY Act to address America’s housing crisis.

4 out of 5 homeowners in New Hampshire are priced out of our state’s median sale price of $565,000. And low inventory is driving sky-high costs.

In Congress, I’m doing everything I can to find creative solutions to the current housing crisis. We’ve got to be pursuing new, innovative ideas to build the tens of thousands of new homes New Hampshire needs to make housing affordable in our state. That’s exactly what Mike Danis and his team at Tiny Houses of New Hampshire in Lyndeborough are doing.

Image

Proud to stand with Tiny Houses of NH and think through innovative approaches to the urgent housing crisis in New Hampshire.

Image

Tiny Houses of New Hampshire is offering a more affordable alternative for homeownership for hardworking families, with many beautiful homes costing about one-fifth of what an average home in the state costs.

Sky-high costs are standing between hardworking Americans and a cornerstone of the American Dream: having a home you love. To bring down costs, we need to build more affordable homes in New Hampshire. That’s exactly what our bipartisan Affordable HOMES Act, which the House passed this past week, will help us do.

Image

Learn more about the Affordable HOMES Act here.

There are so many creative solutions we can utilize to end this crisis – and they do not need to be partisan. I applaud President Trump’s proposal this past week to ban large institutional investors from buying additional single-family homes. When giant companies buy up supply, they drive up costs and make it impossible for hardworking families to live the American Dream.

Image

While serving in the United States Department of Justice, I took on RealPage for its price gouging and anticompetitive practices.

Before taking the oath of office to represent New Hampshire in the People’s House, I took on corporate monopolies jacking up housing costs for you and your family. This fight matters, and it’s why I urge President Trump to follow through on this proposal and deliver for the American people.

Ensuring Every Family Can Access Quality, Affordable Childcare

Granite Staters are in the middle of a cost crisis. This past week, the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute found that nearly 1 in 4 households in New Hampshire don’t have $2,000 in savings for emergencies. Families are being crushed by sky-high costs, including the cost of childcare.

Image

It’s an honor to visit New Hampshire’s future leaders at daycares across our state.

Hardworking people across New Hampshire are struggling to access the affordable, quality childcare they need. In Congress, I’m working with every tool I have to expand access to affordable care.

And, just over the past few weeks, the Trump Administration created a wave of chaos and confusion when they announced that they were freezing child care funding. So far, New Hampshire hasn’t been hit by this arbitrary and damaging clawback in federal funding, and I will fight for every penny that our childcare providers need.

I also won’t quit in my legislative advocacy to make childcare more affordable. I am helping to lead the Child Care for Working Families Act because the child care crisis is hurting New Hampshire families and holding back our economy. Too many parents can’t find the care they need, and when they do, the cost is simply out of reach.

Image

Fantastic meeting with Gorham Community Learning Center to discuss the importance of delivering affordable, high-quality child care to communities across New Hampshire.

This legislation takes a comprehensive approach by expanding access to high-quality child care, strengthening pre-K and Head Start, and making sure the workers caring for our kids are paid livable wages. We’ve got to do better—and I’ll keep fighting to make quality child care affordable so every family has a fair shot to thrive.

Preventing Forever Wars

Image

We have a President who is ignoring, usurping, and outright thwarting the will of Congress. Watch my interview on CNN here.

President Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to carry out large-scale military action in Venezuela—without congressional authorization or a credible explanation—raises deeply troubling questions. While Nicolás Maduro is a dictator and a thug, and the bravery and skill of America’s troops are truly extraordinary, the President must explain how these strikes make the American people safer, what the legal justification is, and what the plan is now. At a moment when Granite Staters are feeling the pain of a full-blown affordability crisis here at home, the American people deserve clarity, honesty, and accountability.

Image

Threats of seizing Greenland, a NATO ally, are not what the American people need right now. Listen to my interview on SiriusXM here.

Our Constitution is clear: it entrusts Congress—not the President—with the power to declare war. That check exists for a reason, because these are the most consequential decisions a government can make—life-or-death decisions that cost American lives and American taxpayer dollars. Congress has not authorized the use of military force for these operations, and the American people deserve answers before their sons and daughters are put in harm’s way.

Image

Watch my remarks about the urgent need to reassert Congress’s authority over war powers here.

There is no good reason to go to war with Venezuela, and our War Powers Resolution puts decisions about going to war back where they belong: with the United States Congress.

Image

Watch my interview with C-SPAN on the importance of Congress reclaiming our authority over war powers here.

President Trump has been more forthcoming with the executives of Big Oil companies than with the American people. That’s not right, but it tracks since his plan to “run” Venezuela defies common sense.

Public Safety Depends on Public Trust

Public safety depends on public trust—and when that trust is broken, everyone is put at risk. I am praying for Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old fellow American who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota. My heart is with her family, her loved ones, and her community. The American people deserve an independent investigation and full transparency into what happened, because law enforcement must be about keeping our communities safe and holding criminals accountable—not sowing chaos, undermining local police, or shooting American citizens dead.

Image

Read more about the Trump Administration's plan from the Washington Post here.

I am deeply concerned by reports that the Trump Administration has developed plans — apparently without input from the community — to use an industrial warehouse in New Hampshire to detain human beings.

This is not who we are. I am working closely with our partners at every level of government to get to the bottom of this proposal, and I will continue using every tool available to hold the Trump Administration accountable.

One of the main concerns I've heard from people across New Hampshire – including from law enforcement officials – is the fear and distrust that masked individuals are sowing in our communities.

That’s why I cosponsored the No Secret Police Act, H.R. 4176, legislation requiring federal law enforcement officers and agents of the DHS to display identification and insignia when detaining or arresting individuals and to prohibit them from wearing face coverings or any item that conceals their face during detentions or arrests.

Since taking the oath of office, I have stood up to President Trump’s unconstitutional efforts against birthright citizenship, free speech, and due process. I will never back down from protecting your constitutional rights.

Preventing Senseless Acts of Gun Violence

Death by firearms is the leading cause of death for kids in America. And over the past 15 years, the rate at which kids are killed by firearms has grown more in New Hampshire than in any other state in America. Preventing senseless gun violence is about protecting lives and keeping our communities safe.

Image

This past week, the House of Representatives observed a moment of silence to remember the horrific shooting of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords 15 years ago that also took the lives of six people.

I believe deeply that we can respect the Second Amendment while also taking common-sense steps to stop tragedies before they happen. Too many families across this country—and here in New Hampshire—have felt the devastating, lifelong consequences of gun violence, and doing nothing is simply not an option.

Image

We can and must do more to stop senseless gun violence.

That’s why I’m leading and supporting legislation focused on proven, common-sense gun violence prevention. I’m a cosponsor of the Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act of 2025, which would ban bump stocks that turn firearms into weapons of war and have been used to inflict mass casualties. I’m also backing Ethan’s Law, which would set national standards for safely storing firearms to protect children and prevent heartbreaking, preventable deaths.

In addition, I support the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2025, legislation that would close dangerous loopholes and help ensure that guns don’t fall into the wrong hands. These are practical, widely supported measures that save lives—and they reflect a simple truth: preventing gun violence is not about politics, it’s about responsibility.

Honoring 250 Years of American – And Granite – Democracy

January 5, 2026, marked a powerful milestone for our state and our country. Two hundred and fifty years ago, New Hampshire changed the world by becoming the first American state to adopt a Constitution, proving that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people could truly endure. At a moment when our democracy is being tested, that legacy has never mattered more.

Image

I was honored to spend this anniversary with the incredible students and educators at Bow High School, celebrating New Hampshire’s great Constitution and rededicating ourselves to the values it represents.

Our state’s original Constitution teaches us that it is not enough to stand against something—we have to stand for something.

Read more about my remarks at Nashua’s inauguration day here.

We carried that lesson forward at the Inauguration Ceremony for the City of Nashua’s newly-elected leaders this past week. The auditorium was packed with fellow Nashuans who are giving their all to the city we all love. I’m grateful today and every day to be working alongside you.

Image

On the fifth anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, I was proud to stand with my colleagues in recognition of that horrific day and the lives that were taken as a result.

This past week, we also commemorated the anniversary of the January 6, 2021, insurrection.

Five years ago, a violent mob incited by Donald Trump brutally assaulted police officers who were protecting our Capitol and the cornerstone of our Constitution: the peaceful transfer of power after a free and fair election.

In the years after January 6, 2021, federal prosecutors and FBI agents pursued the facts and enforced the law without fear or favor to ensure accountability for crimes committed in connection with that darkest of days in American history. These public servants honored our Constitution and our country in their work. President Trump dishonored our Constitution and our country when he pardoned nearly 1,600 people convicted of crimes, including brutal crimes against police officers, on the first day of his second and final term.

January 6th showed us both the inspiring resilience and extraordinary fragility of American democracy. The self-evident truths that make us who we are as Americans are not self-sustaining — they require constant care for the rule of law and a shared commitment to the truth.

Image

We are what we remember. I am proud to champion a resolution to mark January 6th as Democracy Day to honor the lives lost and forever changed.

In the days ahead, let’s recommit ourselves to the hard, necessary work of coming together to build the more perfect union our Constitution promises — a more perfect union that remains a beacon of hope for the world.

G from Milan contacted our office after struggling for weeks to replace his granddaughter’s Social Security card. Because children have to apply in person, he tried calling Social Security for help—but every call led only to an automated system, with no way to reach a real person.

After more than a month of frustration, G reached out to our office to see if there was a way we could help get this resolved. We contacted Social Security on his behalf, and soon after, G was able to set up an appointment for his granddaughter.

The visit went smoothly, and his granddaughter’s replacement card is now on its way.

Our team is here to help you. If you need help with a federal agency, please call 603-226-1002 or visit Goodlander.House.Gov.
