Dear Neighbors,
The House of Representatives wasn't in session this week, but it was a busy week nonetheless. Debates about the damage caused by data centers have come to a head in communities around the country, access to Mifepristone has come under attack, House Republicans have tried to sneak in $1 billion in taxpayer money for Trump's ballroom, and meanwhile, the Trump family continues to exploit conflicts of interest to enrich themselves.
In this week's E-Newsletter 1. Data Center Debate 2. Reproductive Rights Under Attack 3. Oversight of ICE 4. Ballroom $ Snuck into the Budget 5. Trump Corruption World Tour 6. Preventing Reoffenders 7. May Passport Clinic 8. Service Academy Info

Data Center Debate There is much we don't know about the impact of data centers on where we live. That is why so many (in New Jersey and around the country) are pushing back - to protect the health of our communities and our environment.
In a recent study, researchers found that the opening of data centers, like those proposed throughout New Jersey, led to an average temperature increase of 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit in surrounding neighborhoods. For some data centers, the temperature spike reached 16.4 degrees. We know from studies that living in high ambient temperatures is the cause of 12,000 avoidable premature deaths per year in the U.S. In addition, research indicates that living in areas of excessive heat can negatively impact a person’s mental health.
This year, I introduced the Data Center Community Impact Act to help us fully understand what data centers mean for where we live, so we can make informed decisions as a country.
Reproductive Rights Under Attack On May 2nd, a federal appeals court decided in Louisiana v. FDA to block the mailing of prescriptions for Mifepristone, a safe and effective medication for ending early pregnancies.
On Monday, the Supreme Court put a temporary stay on that decision, reestablishing access for the time being.
As we navigate the aftermath of the Louisiana v. FDA decisions, let’s be clear about one thing: Mifepristone was safe and effective when the FDA first approved it over 25 years ago, and it has been safe and effective for the millions of people who have used it to end their pregnancies and manage their miscarriages - at home or in a doctor's office.
I am deeply concerned about the lasting impacts these decisions may have not only in Louisiana, but nationwide. In places like Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas, the nearest providers are hundreds of miles away.
Know that as a member of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, I will never stop fighting for access to reproductive health care, including medication abortion, for anyone who needs it.
Attempts to Stifle Oversight of ICE It has been almost a year since Reps. LaMonica McIver, Rob Menéndez, and I stepped up to conduct oversight at Delaney Hall and protect our community from ICE. Recently, I spoke with Marie Claire about why I am standing on the front lines with LaMonica as the administration shows how far they will go to silence political opponents with egregious charges and accusations.
She will not be intimidated. We will not be intimidated. The American people will not be intimidated.
Ballroom Budget Blitz This week, House Republicans tried to sneak $1 billion into the next reconciliation package to pay for part of President Trump’s outrageous White House Ballroom, despite his promises that there would be no taxpayer dollars involved in its construction.
This is an outrageous waste of taxpayer dollars on a gaudy vanity project. At a time when prices on gas, groceries, and housing are sky high, the President’s focus on a ballroom, let alone asking taxpayers to fund it, is ridiculous. For House Republicans, many of whom are privately and even publicly against it, to give in to Trump’s demands is downright pathetic.
As the New Jersey Representative on the Budget and Appropriations committees, I will work on your behalf to fight against this irresponsible use of your taxpayer dollars for frivolous projects.
Trump Corruption World Tour This week, I released the latest entry in my series, the Trump Corruption World Tour, shining a light on the corruption the Trump administration is committing in the dark.

The Pentagon earlier this year announced a $20 billion defense contract tied to military tech and battlefield systems. Just days before, Joshua Kushner’s investment firm led a major funding round for defense contractor Anduril, valuing the company at roughly $60 billion.
The people closest to political power are increasingly tied to industries benefiting from government policy and spending. The public deserves to have confidence that defense is being driven by national security needs and public interest, not to line the Trump family's pockets.
Preventing Reoffenders Roughly 63 percent of people in jail have a substance use disorder. In the first two weeks after release, the risk of dying from an opioid overdose is 40 times higher than in the general population. Tolerance drops during incarceration, and without a medical handoff at the door, that first weekend can be the last. This unfolds against a backdrop of more than 70,000 overdose deaths nationwide each year.
This week, I published an OpEd with Representative John Rutherford, a Republican and former Sheriff, about the need to pass the Second Chance Reauthorization Act of 2025. The Senate has already acted. The House must follow. The bill funds job training during incarceration, pre-release employment planning, and immediate post-release placement. Sheriffs across the country support it because they understand what its absence costs.
