Dear Friends-
Get A Warrant: The Fight for Your Rights
Fixing the Patriot Act served as one of my motivations to run for Congress in 2016. Since getting elected, I have worked to restore Constitutional protections to the right to privacy. Freedom surrendered is rarely reclaimed, but last week, we had a chance to require a warrant before Americans’ data could be searched. Unfortunately, an amendment that would end warrantless searches of U.S. citizens under Section 702 of FISA failed in a tie vote of 212 to 212.

Congress and the American people know that our right to privacy has been eroded, which is why this vote was critical to restoring our Constitutional rights. In 2020 and 2021 alone, the FBI was found to have conducted 278,000 improper searches. This is because Section 702 does not contain warrant requirements and can be used as a backdoor by the government to surveil Americans' data without meeting the same standards required within a criminal investigation. Without a warrant requirement, the intelligence community "queries Americans. They claim this is not a search. Check the synonyms. For me, the question is easily resolved by whose name was entered into the "search/query" field. If it's an American's, the 4th Amendment should be clear: get a warrant.
To restore a government that is small enough to fit within the Constitution, we need Members of Congress who are committed to the Constitution.

This week, we will continue the fight to protect privacy and restore the 4th Amendment. My bipartisan Fourth Amendment Is Not for Sale Act is scheduled for a vote by the House. Watch a discussion about this bill with Sean Duffy and Degan McDowell on Fox Business here or below.
