Last week, we witnessed another horrific shooting in Maine that claimed the lives of 18 innocent people.

These tragedies have come to define daily life in America. But it doesn’t have to be like this.

That's why I called on my colleagues—on both sides of the aisle—to join me in taking action.

We need to pass commonsense gun safety laws that a majority of Americans support, including expanded background checks and a federal assault weapons ban. At the same time, we need to address the mental health crisis in our communities by expanding access to care and ensuring more people can get the help they need.

I have cosponsored several bills that would help solve this problem, like the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and Ethan's Law. But there's no time left to waste.

Let's work together to put an end to this crisis and make our communities safer for everyone.
