Dear Friend,
Across America, countless families have lost loved ones to the fentanyl crisis. In Oregon alone, it’s estimated that one in five people die every week from this dangerous drug.
I am working hard to put an end to this epidemic and get fentanyl off our streets–and I would like to give you a brief update on that work now.
Last week, I participated in a fentanyl roundtable at the Salem Police Department with law enforcement and local leaders from our community. During our discussion, I got to hear from folks who are on the frontlines of this crisis and discuss possible solutions. This roundtable follows a similar conversation I had with Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and other members of the Oregon delegation last August.

Solving this epidemic is going to require an all-hands-on-deck approach, and we need to work with police and local leaders to determine what policies work (and what doesn't work).
To that end, I will soon be introducing a bill that would help us track and study the effectiveness of laws aimed at reducing substance abuse. In the meantime, I will continue to do everything I can to ensure our police and local leaders have the tools they need to fight back against fentanyl and other opioids.

Be well,
Andrea Salinas Member of Congress
