Dear Friend,
As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I’ve been hard at work on the Farm Bill—a huge piece of legislation that impacts thousands of Oregonians, from hazelnut and blueberry growers to families who rely on programs like SNAP to put food on the table.
It is Congress’ job to reauthorize a new Farm Bill every few years. But with all the chaos in the House right now, the Republican majority has been unable to pass a full, five-year Farm Bill.
Oregon’s rural communities deserve certainty–not endless delays.
That is why my Democratic colleagues and I took action this week and announced a clear-cut, no-nonsense path to a bipartisan Farm Bill.
I have spent months hosting roundtables, listening sessions, and meetings with rural stakeholders across my district to learn more about their priorities for the Farm Bill. What my colleagues and I introduced this week is a direct product of those conversations.
Reducing hunger, lowering costs for farmers, investing in sustainable agriculture. These are all areas where we agree and can find bipartisan consensus.
Moving forward, I am hopeful that we can come together and finally pass a robust Farm Bill that includes these and many other top priorities for Oregonians. This is a historic opportunity to set Oregon on a path to long-term success, and I will continue working to get this important legislation across the finish line as quickly as possible.
