News from Congresswoman Andrea Salinas

Dear Friend,

As Police Week comes to a close, I’d like to take a moment to honor the many courageous Oregonians in our district who have answered the call to protect and serve.

My dad served as a police officer for over 30 years, so I understand the risks that come with wearing the badge. I’m also thinking about the families of those who were injured or killed in the line of duty.

Throughout my first term in Congress, I have continuously met with local law enforcement to learn more about the issues they are facing and how I can better support them.

Right now, many police departments in Oregon and across the nation are dealing with a shortage of officers. That’s why I’m committed to delivering the funding and resources they need to be able to recruit, train, and retain more officers and keep our communities safe.ImagePolice officers also routinely face traumatic, life-or-death situations that can have a negative impact on their mental health. As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus, I’m working across the aisle to expand access to mental health care for law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders – including expanding access to peer support programs.

These are just a few solutions that will help us better support those brave Americans who put their lives on the line to protect us.

I’ll always be grateful to them and their families – not just during Police Week, but every week.

Be well,
