Dear Friend,

Many of us know or love someone who has been impacted by breast cancer – myself included. I lost one of my childhood friends to metastatic breast cancer when she was just 40 years old, so this disease is deeply personal for me as it is for millions of Americans.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’d like to take a moment to raise awareness about this disease and share my commitment to finding a cure. Watch my message below.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for American women, accounting for nearly 30% of all new cancer cases every year. That’s why it is crucial for everyone – especially those at higher risk for breast cancer – to know the signs and symptoms.

Some of the warning signs of breast cancer may include:

  • New lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
  • Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.
  • Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast.
  • Pain in any area of the breast.
  • …and more. Click the link here to see a full list of possible warning signs.

Regular self-breast exams and mammogram screenings are critical to ensure that this disease is caught early. If you believe that you are showing signs or symptoms of breast cancer, you should schedule an appointment or speak to your doctor immediately. You can also click here to find a mammography facility near you.

As your Congresswoman, I will continue working across the aisle to invest in cancer research and treatment and ensure that all Americans can access the timely, affordable care they deserve. No one should have to watch their loved ones suffer, and I will keep fighting until we put an end to this deadly and unfair disease.

Together, we will find a cure.

Be well,
