Dear Friend,

The first month of the 119th Congress is officially in the books, and I wanted to give you a quick update on all the work I’ve been doing on behalf of you and your neighbors in Oregon’s Sixth District.

(Don’t forget to forward this newsletter to a friend so they can stay-up-to-date on legislation, upcoming events, and more!)

Fostering strong relationships with local leaders is very important to me, because it helps all of us work more efficiently and effectively for you. Earlier this month, I had productive meetings with Yamhill County Commissioner Bubba King and Newberg City Councilor Elise Yarnell Hollamon, as well as McMinnville Mayor Kim Morris and city officials. I also visited Willamette University, where I met with President Thorsett and learned about the university’s programs – including Oregon’s only immigration law clinic.

Over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, I spent my time volunteering with A Family Place in Yamhill County, where I helped package free diapers and wipes for families in need. As a mom, I know how expensive it is to raise a child – and I’ll continue working across the aisle to reduce the cost of living and provide much-needed relief for Oregon parents.

Finally, I visited Chapul Farms in McMinnville, where I had the chance to tour their facilities and celebrate a grant they recently received from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It was very interesting to see firsthand how they breed black soldier flies for the purpose of turning organic material into nutrient-rich fertilizer – a truly innovative process and a first for me!

These past few weeks have also been filled with a lot of uncertainty, fear, and confusion for the American people. When I attended the Presidential Inauguration on January 20th, I made clear that I would be willing to work with the new Administration to bring down costs and improve public safety. Unfortunately, the President has taken the opposite approach – unleashing a wave of chaos that will kill jobs, increase costs, and make life harder for Oregonians. He has also given unelected billionaires full access to Americans’ private data – including Social Security, Medicare, and tax information – so they can use it to steal from families and make themselves even richer. Many, if not all, of these actions are illegal or blatantly unconstitutional.

Let me be clear: I will not stay silent as Republicans continue to rip off the American people. Watch the video below to learn more about what I am doing right now to fight back and protect Oregonians.

No matter what happens next, please know that I will continue to stand up and fight for our community in Washington DC. I also want to be a resource for Oregonians who may have questions or concerns about how the Administration’s actions will affect them. Here are a few links that may be helpful to you or someone you know:

  • Know Your Rights: In light of the Trump Administration’s ongoing threats to immigrant communities, it's important for Oregonians to know their rights if approached or detained by ICE. Visit salinas.house.gov/rights to learn more or call my office at (503) 385-0906.
  • Funding Cuts Survey: On January 28th, 2025, the Trump Administration ordered a pause on all federal grants and loan programs. The order was officially rescinded on January 29th, but it remains unclear whether agencies and organizations will continue to receive federal funding. Meanwhile, the Trump Administration is still pursuing drastic cuts that could eliminate jobs and threaten critical programs like Social Security, Medicare, and more. If you are a resident or business owner in Oregon’s Sixth District who has been or anticipates being impacted by the Trump Administration’s funding cuts, please fill out this form.

As always, you can contact my office by calling (503) 385-0906 or by visiting salinas.house.gov/contact. We have Spanish speakers and veterans on staff who are ready and willing to assist you.

Be well,
