Dear Friend,
I have some exciting news to share about upcoming increases to Social Security benefits for certain individuals.
In December 2024, I helped pass the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which was signed into law by President Biden. The law repealed the windfall elimination provision (WEP) and government pension offset (GPO), which prevented retired teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants from receiving the full Social Security benefits they earned and deserve.

Thanks to the Social Security Fairness Act, eligible Americans will now see increases in their monthly checks — and I’m happy to share that those increases may be coming sooner than expected!
The Social Security Administration recently announced that the larger payments will be distributed as soon as April of this year. If you are impacted by this change, please monitor your statements. Remember: Social Security benefits are paid one month behind, so it may take time for you to see an increase.
I also want to reassure you that I am closely monitoring any actions by the Trump Administration that could lead to delays or reductions to Social Security benefits. I will hold the Administration accountable if they fail to deliver this increase as required by law.
If you are a resident of Oregon’s Sixth District who has questions about this change, please call my office at (503) 385-0906 or visit my website at salinas.house.gov/casework. We have veterans and Spanish speakers on staff who are ready to assist you.
Note: this change ONLY impacts individuals who receive a pension based on work that was not covered by Social Security (a “non-covered pension”). That includes retired public sector workers like teachers and firefighters, retired federal employees, and certain other types of workers.
Be well,
Andrea Salinas Member of Congress
