Dear Friend,

I wanted to share a few highlights with you and your neighbors about my recent busy week in the district.

I started off the week by participating in a town hall for federal workers who were illegally fired by Elon Musk and President Trump. Along with Attorney General Dan Rayfield and my colleagues, I heard many painful stories from hardworking Oregonians who have dedicated their lives to public service – only to be shown the door by the Trump Administration. It wasn’t easy to listen to these stories, but it’s important to shine a light on how these reckless job cuts are impacting our community. I’ll continue speaking out and fighting hard to protect Oregon workers and their families.

I also held an in-person town hall at McMinnville High School, where I shared an update about my work in Congress and answered questions from many of you and your neighbors. Whether you were able to attend or not, I want to assure you that I am hearing your concerns and bringing them back with me to Washington, D.C. If you are a resident of Oregon’s Sixth District and you’d like to ask me a question or send me a message, please click here and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Later in the week, I hosted two briefings in Washington and Marion counties with local business owners, elected officials, and community members to learn more about the impact of funding cuts on their lives and livelihoods. While I agree that it is good to “trim the fat” in our government, the Trump Administration and Elon Musk aren’t doing that. Instead, they are taking a sledgehammer to critical programs and ripping away funding for infrastructure upgrades, public safety initiatives, and other important projects. This isn’t wasteful spending – it’s funding that our communities depend on to stay afloat, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure Oregon gets the resources we need to thrive. As the daughter of a union family, I’m committed to passing pro-union policies and uplifting Oregon workers in every way that I can. That’s why I hosted a breakfast meeting with labor leaders from across Oregon’s Sixth District, where I reaffirmed my commitment to supporting working families and delivering better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Over in Tigard, I joined Just Compassion to mark the grand opening of their new resource center, which will provide essential resources like counseling, job training, and other services for folks who are experiencing homelessness. When this project faced unexpected delays, my team stepped in and helped resolve the problem – so I was especially proud to celebrate with them!

Finally, I visited Bridgeway Community Health in Salem where I announced new legislation that will help countless Oregonians who are suffering from behavioral health challenges. My new bill, the Building Capacity for Care Act, helps address the nationwide shortage of behavioral facilities by expanding their capacity to treat patients. It provides new grants and loans that can be used to build new health facilities or renovate existing ones, add additional treatment beds, and more. This is good for everyone, as it will reduce wait times at the emergency room and save lives in the process.

As always, my team and I stand ready to assist you with any issues you may be having with federal agencies, funding cuts, and other problems accessing your hard-earned benefits.

  • Casework: If you need help or have questions about federal agencies like the VA, Social Security, or Medicare, my office may be able to assist you. We have Spanish speakers and veterans on staff. Please give us a call at (503) 385-0906 or visit salinas.house.gov/casework.

  • Funding Cuts Survey: My office is collecting personal stories and feedback from Oregonians who have been or anticipate being impacted by the Trump Administration’s funding freeze or any kind of unexpected cuts. That includes fired federal workers, small business owners who have lost federal grant funding, and others. To share your story, please click here.

Be well,
