Last week, I wrapped up another great week in Oregon’s Sixth District, and I wanted to share some highlights with you and your neighbors.

July is Park and Recreation Month, so I started the week by visiting Chehalem Park and Recreation District. After a productive meeting with local officials, I toured several of the different locations that they manage and learned more about how they are connecting our neighbors with green spaces, programming, and outdoor fun. I was excited to see the updates to the beautiful Chehalem Cultural Center with its new and improved community theater, which will educate and serve Oregonians for years to come.

I also toured Tabula Rasa Farms in Yamhill County, where I saw their incredible regenerative farming practices firsthand. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I know how vital sustainable agriculture is for our future, and this is exactly the kind of innovation we need to support resilient farm economies and healthy communities. I’m proud of the work they are doing and excited it's happening right here in our Sixth District! Make sure to click the link here to watch more from my visit.

On Wednesday, I stopped by Fought & Company Steel in Tigard. I sat down and spoke with staff about tariffs, supply chain management, and the projects they are working on. Afterward, I toured their impressive 180,000-square-foot facility — one of the largest single-site steel fabrication operations in the Pacific Northwest. Fought Steel plays an important role in supporting our region’s infrastructure, and supporting manufacturers like this one is essential to sustaining good jobs and a strong economy in our district.

I finished the week at the Tigard headquarters of Medical Teams International — a nonprofit that delivers medical and dental care to underserved populations both globally and across the Pacific Northwest. I saw their next-generation Care & Connect Mobile Health Clinics that provide easy access to free services.

I also heard more about the challenges they are facing with the coming cuts to Medicaid. Republicans’ Big, Ugly Tax Scam slashes hundreds of billions of dollars from the Oregon Health Plan, forcing up to 200,000 Oregonians off their health care. These cuts will simultaneously increase the demand for the kind of care that Medical Teams International offers while reducing their ability to provide that care. I will keep fighting to give quality care to our underserved communities and to enable groups like Medical Teams International to save lives.

Please know that you can always write to me about the issues that matter most to you and your family. I always appreciate reading your messages. Write to salinas.house.gov/contact
