Dear Friend,
It has been nearly two weeks since the Republicans’ government shutdown began. I know that there is a lot of information coming from both sides of the aisle. That's why I wanted to share with you how the government got into a shutdown, some of the work I am doing for you, and a few resources that may be helpful.
Make sure to share this email with one neighbor so they can have access to this helpful information.
Every year, Congress must renew a package of spending bills to keep the government funded and open. However, Republicans did not include Democrats in their discussions, and funding lapsed on September 30, 2025, which resulted in the government shutting down.
Republicans' spending package did not include an extension for the Affordable Care Act's enhanced premium tax credits. As a result, health care premiums for you and your neighbors could more than double if these tax credits expire. This comes on top of cuts to Medicaid in Republicans' Big, Ugly Bill. Americans cannot afford not to have these tax credits extended.

Instead of Republicans coming back to the negotiating table, they have been taking an extended vacation. I have been in D.C. ready to work for you and your families. However, without my Republican colleagues, we cannot get back to the table and negotiate a deal that safeguards your health care.
Just this past week I testified at a Steering and Policy Committee hearing about how Republicans’ health care crisis will hurt Steve and Conni, residents of Oregon’s Sixth District.
(P.S. If you or someone you know is expecting to see their premiums increase, please let me know by clicking the link here to share your story with me.)
Here is what I shared: Steve, who lives with his wife in Beaverton, is 68 and still working. He's on Medicare, but wife is only 61, and she won't qualify for Medicare for a few more years. She currently pays $500 a month for coverage through the Affordable Care Act, but next year, her premium is set to increase to $800 per month unless Congress acts.
Another one of my constituents, Conni, responded with a similar story. To learn more from the hearing and to listen to Conni’s story, click the link here or watch the video below.
