Dear Friend,
It has been 24 days since Republicans decided to shut down the government. They control the House, the Senate, and the White House, and they’re willing to keep the government shut down instead of working to avoid a looming health care crisis. More on that in a moment, but first…
I will be hosting mobile casework hours this Monday, October 27, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Tigard Senior Center. Members of my staff will be ready to help you navigate a federal agency or answer any other questions you may have. This event is open to anyone, and an RSVP is not required.

The Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits help millions of families across the country afford their health care coverage. But unless Republicans act, these tax credits will expire at the end of the year, forcing families to choose between paying thousands more for their insurance or going without the health care they need.
While Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are on their extended vacation, I have been in D.C., ready to work for hardworking Americans just like you. Families in Oregon’s Sixth Congressional District have already been receiving notices in the mail that their premiums may double. This is on top of President Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill, which brought the largest cuts to Medicaid in U.S. history. Listen to my message about the fourth week of the Republicans’ shutdown.

In recent weeks, I’ve heard from many of you about what this means to your families.
I heard from Sue in Salem, who donated one of her kidneys and cannot afford to go without consistent care. If tax credits expire, Sue’s insurance premiums will spike to over $1,000 per month — more than double what she was previously paying.
JoAnn, a Carlton resident, told me that she and her partner live off their pensions and pay $725 a month for health insurance. Without the tax credits, she expects her premiums to rise to $2,300. This means they will need to switch coverage to a provider that’s more than an hour away from their home.
Sue and JoAnn's stories are just two examples of what millions of Americans are facing right now.
That is why I want to hear from you. If you are expecting to see your premiums increase, please share your story with me as well by clicking the link here.
House Democrats and I have made it clear: We did not want a government shutdown, and we will not be complicit in making health care unaffordable for millions of Americans — including the 16,000 who rely on these tax credits in our district.
I’m standing firm with my Democratic colleagues to say Republicans must fix this health care crisis and reopen the government. We owe it to people like Sue and JoAnn. We owe it to all Americans.
P.S. You can visit my shutdown web page at salinas.house.gov/shutdown to find answers to some frequently asked questions. Know that you can call my office at (503) 385-0906 or write to me at salinas.house.gov/contact. My office is open and ready to work for you during the shutdown.
Be well,
Andrea Salinas Member of Congress
