Dear Friend,
Late Wednesday night, Republicans voted to continue their health care crisis with a Senate-passed bill that does nothing to lower your cost of living. I voted NO, and I am deeply disappointed in the outcome of this bill.

This bill is a slap in the face to families who are already struggling with the cost of health care. In fact, it could leave many Americans, including some of our neighbors in Oregon’s Sixth District, with an impossible decision between keeping their care or, worse, going without it.
Let me be clear: I never wanted a government shutdown, but I will not be complicit in spiking health care costs for millions of hardworking American families.
Since the very start of this Republican-led chaos, I have reiterated that I would support a bipartisan plan that would lower health care costs. This bill doesn’t. Republicans control the House, Senate, and the White House. By refusing to negotiate on a deal, they took ownership of this shutdown and of your rising health care costs.
Just this past summer, President Trump forced his Big, Ugly Bill through Congress, which made the largest cuts to Medicaid (Oregon Health Plan) in U.S. history, all to give tax breaks to billionaires. Now, Republicans have avoided extending the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits. It is clear that President Trump and Republicans in Congress do not care about making your life more affordable. You and your families deserve better.
P.S. If you are expecting to see your premiums increase, please share your story with me by clicking the link here.
Our work is far from over. Here is my message to you: I will continue fighting for you and your families to ensure that you can lead comfortable, affordable lives with access to the care and resources you deserve.
Now that the government has reopened, federal government services that could have been impacted should be available. However, it may take some time for services to return to normal. If you or someone you know needs help with a federal agency, call my office (503) 385-0906 or write to me at salinas.house.gov/casework.
Be well,
Andrea Salinas Member of Congress
