News from Congresswoman Andrea Salinas

Dear Friend,

Happy 2026! I hope you were able to have a restful holiday season. A lot has happened in the news over the past few weeks, so I wanted to give you an update.

First, I’m deeply troubled by the shooting outside of Adventist Hospital in Portland yesterday. While many details of the incident remain unknown, we know that CBP shot two individuals. Right now, many in our community are rightly concerned about their safety and have questions about the appropriate use of force by federal immigration agents.

As we wait for more information to emerge, I will continue to communicate with state and local officials, and I will continue to stay up to date on the latest developments. My main priority is ensuring the safety of our community. That is why I am demanding that our state and local law enforcement officials are included in a full and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Throughout this process, I urge every Oregonian to remain calm and peaceful.

Last night, the House of Representatives passed a clean, three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits. This is good news, and if signed into law, it will help millions of families afford their health care. The House has done its part, but now it is up to Senate Republicans and Trump to save millions of Americans from paying egregiously high costs.

Before the vote, I took to the House Floor to talk about what will happen to some of our neighbors if this bill doesn’t get signed into law. Click here or below to listen to my full speech.

In addition to voting to stop skyrocketing health care costs, I have also been monitoring the ongoing situation in Venezuela.

Nicolás Maduro has presided over years of corruption, repression, and economic collapse. But opposition to his regime does not give any U.S. president the authority to bypass Congress or unilaterally deploy American troops to overthrow a foreign government.

The Trump Administration's claims that this military intervention was justified in the name of national security or fighting drug cartels are unconvincing. What is clear is that Venezuela’s vast oil reserves have long shaped Trump’s interest in the region, and this overthrow raises serious questions about whose interests are really being served.

At the same time, families here at home are struggling with rising costs. Millions of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, forced to make impossible choices between paying for food, housing, or keeping the lights on. President Trump should be focused on improving the affordability and quality of life for working families in this country, not pursuing foreign policy that risks further instability abroad while benefiting only the wealthiest at home.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the recent killing of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by ICE in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday morning.

I send my thoughts to her friends and family.

ICE shot and killed her in broad daylight. Sadly, this is not the first time ICE has killed someone in the last year. Renee’s death deserves a full and transparent investigation, but the Trump Administration has been clear that they will not work in coordination with local authorities.

I do not trust that Kash Patel will deliver a truthful investigation into this killing or the shooting in Portland. The abuse of people living on U.S. soil must stop, and I will continue to use every available tool at my disposal to hold bad actors accountable. Renee Nicole Good deserves justice.
