Dear Friend,
I’ve had a busy week in Washington, D.C., and I wanted to give you an update on what I’ve been doing to make our community safer and more affordable.
Earlier in the week, I appeared before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to advocate for federal funding for our roads and bridges across Oregon’s Sixth District. I talked about projects like the Newberg-Dundee bypass and the Boone Bridge, and how important they are for our district’s economy. These projects are arteries for our district, but they are also in desperate need of updates to improve their safety and seismic resilience, so I was glad for the opportunity to advocate for some of our infrastructure needs.

I also unveiled a plan for a new bill that would support families and farmers by protecting them from rising costs and cuts to SNAP. Right now, too many farmers are feeling the pain of President Trump’s reckless tariffs. They’ve been clear with me: they need relief. This bill would help all farmers, including specialty crop growers who have been left behind by the Trump Administration. It would also help families by delaying some of the “Big, Ugly Bill’s” impacts on SNAP, keeping it working as intended and helping prevent cuts to families’ benefits.
Yesterday, I took to the House Floor to speak out against the Trump Administration’s authoritarian immigration enforcement tactics that are making our communities less safe. As your Congresswoman, it is my duty to conduct oversight, and the Administration has tried to put up roadblocks at every turn. When I tried to meet with my constituents held in the Tacoma, Washington, ICE facility in November, I was denied access. That’s unacceptable. Instead of terrorizing our communities, Trump should spend more time focusing on the affordability crisis

And finally, I want to share a win from this week. On Tuesday night, the Trump Administration suddenly tried to cancel roughly $2 billion in funding for mental health and drug addiction treatment services. Regardless of your political affiliation, we can all recognize that this is cruel and misguided. As co-chair of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus, I led over 90 of my colleagues in a bipartisan effort to get the Trump Administration to stop these cuts. Within 24 hours, they reversed their decision.

Friends — whether it’s roads, farms, immigration, or mental health, my priority stays the same: standing up for Oregonians and making sure our government works for you and your neighbors.
