News from Congresswoman Andrea Salinas

Dear Neighbor,

January is officially in the books, and I wanted to share an update on the work I’ve been doing on behalf of you and your neighbors in Oregon’s Sixth Congressional District.

One of the biggest issues I hear about from our neighbors is that costs are too high. The price of health care is skyrocketing because conservatives let the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits expire. This month, I proudly voted to extend these vital tax credits. Now, it’s up to the Senate and President Trump to do the same to save millions of other Americans from paying absurdly high costs.

Health care isn’t the only thing that has become more expensive under Trump’s policies. Recently, I reconnected with Sue, who is facing a 150% increase in her premiums, to stop by a grocery store in Salem. We bought some household staples to see how pricey they’ve become since January 2025. The numbers speak for themselves. Click here or below to check out the video and compare the prices.

Over this past month, many of you have contacted me with concerns about ICE activity in Minnesota and right here in Oregon. ICE’s actions have resulted in the shootings of two U.S. citizens, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. Like so many of you, I am horrified by their deaths and the mistreatment of American citizens. ICE must adopt policies that uphold our constitutional rights, prevent further trauma and violence, and refocus on identifying real safety threats to our communities. That is why I am continuing to conduct oversight of ICE facilities, introducing legislation to hold them accountable, and voting no on any funding that does not include policies to protect Americans. Finally, I have signed on to legislation to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and I would vote to impeach her if that legislation comes before the House.

I'm on the bill to impeach Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem. Do you think Congress should impeach her?

Investing in our roads and bridges is critical for the people and goods that move throughout our district, which is why I spoke before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to push for federal funding for the Newberg-Dundee Bypass, seismic resiliency for the Boone Bridge in Wilsonville, and improvements to the dangerous junction of Highway 51 and Highway 22 near Salem. These updates are vital to our safety and economic development. They already have strong support from our local and state government, and I’m working to secure federal resources to get them over the finish line.

ICYMI: I ended the month with another telephone town hall, where I got to speak with more than 13,000 Oregonians about the issues that matter most to them. I couldn’t do this job without your input, which energizes and motivates all of my work in D.C.

Couldn’t make it to the town hall? No problem. Visit salinas.house.gov for information on how to get in touch, and subscribe for my newsletter at salinas.house.gov/newsletter to get notified about upcoming events. I look forward to hearing from you.

Be well,
