News from Congresswoman Andrea Salinas

Dear Friend,

When Donald Trump ran for president, he promised that life would become more affordable. He has not delivered.

Forward this to one neighbor so they can learn about the work I am doing for them!

On the day he took office in 2025, the average price of gas was around $3 a gallon. He repeatedly promised gas prices under $2 a gallon. Instead, nationwide, Americans are paying an average of more than $4 a gallon and more than $5 in Oregon. Despite his promises, electricity rates have risen roughly 10%, outpacing inflation and squeezing family budgets even more.

Instead of the Trump Administration living up to its promises, they have dragged our country into an unconstitutional war with Iran. The war has disrupted the economy and broadcast this Administration’s foolishness on the world stage. But I’m demanding answers and holding the Trump Administration responsible.

Last week, in the House Committee on Agriculture, I questioned the Secretary of Agriculture about the growing pressures on our farmers. The Trump Administration’s actions have burdened our farmers with low crop prices, high input costs, and trade policies that have decimated our export markets. Our farmers are hurting, and it’s clear the Trump Administration has no timeline to fix it.

This week, I brought similar questions to the Secretary of Energy during a Committee on Science, Space, and Technology hearing. Secretary Wright even admitted to me that the Trump Administration knew their unconstitutional war with Iran would raise prices, yet they proceeded with the war anyway.

Instead of lowering costs, Republicans in Congress voted to give an additional $70 billion to ICE and CBP. I voted no. This money will only embolden ICE to keep spreading fear and brutality. You deserve to feel safe in your own community, and you deserve leaders focused on issues that actually matter most to you and your families.

Mental Health Awareness Month may have ended as May came to a close, but our work to expand access to mental healthcare must continue year-round.

Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill slashed nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, the single largest payer of mental healthcare in the country. Moreover, their staff and funding cuts at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) threaten to dismantle the recovery systems people depend on. This is shortsighted and wrong.

As co-chair of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus, I will continue working to ensure that everyone who needs treatment and support can access it without barriers. Together, we can put a stop to this crisis. Click here to read more in my latest op-ed!

Be well,
