Milestones

This past month offered plenty to reflect on. Our nation marked 250 years since its founding. We honored the enduring values that shaped our democracy, remembered those who sacrificed to uphold those values, and renewed our commitment to building a more perfect union for all.

We also celebrated the 57th anniversary of one of our country’s greatest achievements: the Moon landing! As a member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I introduced a resolution to establish July 20 as National Moon Landing Day — to praise those who made this triumph possible, inspire future generations to dream big, and ensure the U.S. continues to lead the world in science and innovation.

This month also brought a more grim milestone. It has been one year since Donald Trump and Republicans’ so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” became law. This bill gutted our healthcare system and took food assistance away from hungry families, seniors, and veterans to prioritize tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations. One year later, I am still proud that I voted no. I will never stop fighting to help Oregonians access quality care and make life more affordable.

My Bills Passed!

BILLS PASSED: I celebrated the passage of two of my bills through the House of Representatives. These pieces of legislation will strengthen two of Oregon’s key industries, support American workers, and help the country remain a global leader in energy innovation.

GOOD NEWS: In addition, another bill I supported became law this month. I was proud to vote for the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to help make rent affordable and give Americans a fair shot at homeownership. The bill passed in Congress with huge support from both parties and went into effect, despite President Trump’s refusal to sign it.

Groundbreakings

Exciting new things are happening across Oregon’s Sixth District! July offered a front-row seat to the progress happening in our communities.

  • NEW FOOD BANK FACILITY: I spoke at the groundbreaking for the Ella Curran Food Bank’s new Polk County facility, supported by $775,000 in federal funding I helped secure. As families face rising costs, food banks are seeing record demand. Hunger is a policy choice, and we need federal action that helps Americans put food on the table. That is why I am working to restore and strengthen nutrition programs that children, veterans, seniors, and working families rely on.
  • NEW PUBLIC LIBRARY: Keizer Community Library officially became the newest public library in Oregon! I’ve carried a library card my whole life, and one of my favorite things to do as a parent was to take my daughter to the library, so I was especially honored to speak at the grand opening and cut the ribbon.
  • NEW PUBLIC PARK: I also delivered remarks at the grand opening of a park in Dundee! In 2023, the National Park Service awarded more than $630,000 to develop this space. I supported this investment because Oregonians know how essential access to the outdoors is for the well-being of our communities.

Wildfire Preparedness

I questioned U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz about the Trump Administration’s irresponsible plans to reorganize the Forest Service. I warned that pulling vital personnel away from our forests would weaken the health of our public lands, leave communities vulnerable to dangerous wildfires, and undermine prevention efforts. Take a listen to my opening statement.
