News from Congresswoman Andrea Salinas

Dear Friend,

It was another busy week in Oregon, and I am excited to share some updates with you and your neighbors. Let’s get right to it!

Growing the Innovation Economy

This week, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and I toured Intel’s Hillsboro campus to learn more about their work and the impact it will have on our region. Oregon is home to the Silicon Forest, and strengthening this industry means more high-paying jobs and a better economy for Oregonians.

As a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I am working to ensure Oregonians are fully prepared for — and benefiting from — the innovation economy that is shaping our future.

Reimagining Healthcare

This week, I held a hearing on healthcare with U.S. Senator Ron Wyden and State Representative Lesly Muñoz in Salem. We heard from Oregonians whose stories made one thing clear: everyone deserves affordable, accessible, high-quality healthcare.

One year after Republicans passed their Big Ugly Bill, the healthcare system as we know it is at its breaking point. This is an opportunity to reimagine our approach to healthcare so that all patients can get the care they need. My first priority will be reversing these harmful and short-sighted cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to get the system back upright.

But we can’t stop there. Our state has long been a pioneer when it comes to healthcare. To honor that legacy, we must also work at the federal level to build a system with lower costs, higher quality care, and better outcomes for the folks that rely on it. Because Americans deserve better.

Supporting Higher Education

Oregon’s Sixth District is a hub for higher education. This week, I visited Corban University in Salem, where I learned how they are preparing students for success, and we discussed ways I can support their efforts in Congress.

Juanita Pohl Center Ribbon Cutting

GRAND REOPENING: I was proud to speak at the grand reopening of the Juanita Pohl Center, an important community hub in Tualatin. The project would not have been possible without federal dollars, and I’ll keep working to deliver tangible investments like this that make a real difference in people’s quality of life.

Funding for Yamhill County

FUNDING DELIVERED: I helped deliver more than $1.9 MILLION in funding for new buses in Yamhill County! This grant will help keep Yamhill County’s communities linked and its economy growing. I’m committed to securing even more investment in transportation and infrastructure across the Sixth District.

Fighting Against Corruption

Public trust in government remains near historic lows. One reason is because folks are sick and tired of seeing politicians profit off their positions.

For example, Trump has started selling early access to his Truth Social feed, charging trading firms up to $100,000 a month. Those posts can move markets within seconds, giving these firms a chance to act ahead of everybody who can’t afford the subscription. This is shameless, Tony Soprano-style corruption. And I’m not having any of it.

BILL INTRODUCED: So I introduced the Stop Corrupt Trading Act to ban the President and Vice President from selling early or exclusive access to their official social media posts. Because public servants should work for the people, not for profit.

This is not the only way I’m fighting back against Trump’s schemes. Read about two of my other anti-corruption bills:

  • BILL INTRODUCED: My No Getting Rich in Congress Act would crack down on insider trading in Congress and the White House, restore trust in government, and ensure public service is about serving the American people, not personal profit.
  • BILL INTRODUCED: My NO PROFIT Act would tax the profit Trump has earned in office from his insider trading at 100%. ICYMI: Watch my interview on MS NOW about this legislation.
