Dear Friend,
I've had a busy August in Oregon working for our communities. I wanted to share a recap of the past month and give a preview of the weeks to come.
Newberg Town Hall
Thank you to everyone who came to my in-person town hall in Newberg. It was great to hear from you about your top priorities. If you want to attend future town halls, make sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter to learn about upcoming events!

Healthcare Is a Human Right
I visited CAP Northwest and met with staff who support people living with HIV. An HIV diagnosis brings many challenges, and organizations like CAP Northwest provide compassionate care and essential resources. I’m committed to ensuring these providers have the tools to continue serving our community.
I joined Senator Ron Wyden and State Rep. Lesly Muñoz to hear directly from Oregonians about our failing healthcare system. Their stories made it clear that our system is at a breaking point, and patients and providers are paying the price. That's why I am fighting for a healthcare system that puts people over profits and will ensure every Oregonian has access to affordable, timely, and quality care.

I toured the Salem Planned Parenthood clinic and spoke with the dedicated staff who provide essential services ranging from cancer screenings to annual physicals. I promise to keep using every tool at my disposal to protect their vital work and ensure that all Americans can get the care they need.
On the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, members of my team and I swung by the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center in Sherwood to speak with seniors and help them with casework. Medicare and Medicaid have helped millions of Americans access care, and I am fighting every day to protect these programs for the next generation of Oregonians.

Agriculture in the Willamette Valley
Agriculture in the Willamette Valley is a pillar of our state’s economy. This month, I spent time touring farms across our district.
I visited Universal Seed in Independence to observe seed processing and testing. I spent time at Lucky Crow Farm in Monmouth learning about their community-minded vegetable production. I stopped by Pearmine Farms in Gervais to hear a fourth-generation farmer’s challenges, and I toured Alpha Nursery in Salem to see how a family-run operation cultivates hundreds of plant varieties.
As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, I will take these conversations back to D.C. to find real solutions that strengthen today’s farmers and tomorrow’s harvest.

The Innovation Economy
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and I toured Intel’s Hillsboro campus to learn more about their work and the impact it will have on our region. Oregon is home to the Silicon Forest, and bolstering this industry means more high-paying jobs and a better economy for Oregonians.

Investing in Safety and Connection
In Wilsonville, I visited Boone Bridge to discuss the urgent need for replacement planning with local officials. Because of its age and seismic risks, we must invest now to keep the I-5 corridor safe and reliable, and I am working to secure more federal funding for this project.

FUNDING DELIVERED: I helped deliver more than $1.9 million in funding for new buses in Yamhill County. This grant will help keep Yamhill County’s communities linked and its economy growing.
GRAND REOPENING: I was proud to speak at the grand reopening of the Juanita Pohl Center, an important community hub in Tualatin, especially for our seniors. The project would not have been possible without federal dollars, and I’ll keep delivering tangible investments that make a real difference in people’s quality of life.

Restoring Trust in Government
Public trust in government remains near historic lows. One reason is because Americans are tired of seeing politicians profit off their positions.
President Trump is charging trading firms up to $100,000 a month for early access to his Truth Social posts. Those posts can move markets within seconds, giving these firms a chance to act ahead of everybody who can’t afford the subscription.
BILL INTRODUCED: I introduced the Stop Corrupt Trading Act to ban the President and Vice President from selling early or exclusive access to their official social media posts. Because public servants should work for the public interest, not private profit.
Wildfire Season
Oregon is experiencing its most devastating wildfire season on record, and I’m working with leaders in Congress on a comprehensive plan to strengthen prevention, improve coordination, protect homes and working lands, and help communities recover. Click here to learn more about the Wildfire Response and Readiness Act.
As we confront these blazes, we must also support the people on the front lines. I introduced the Lifeline for First Responders Act to create a first-of-its-kind grant to deliver mental health care for our brave firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers. These heroes show up for us when we need it most, and we must show up for them.

Outdoors in Oregon
I visited Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge for a hike with Andy Neal, an Oregonian advocating for our public lands and mental health care — two topics I care deeply about. We had a great conversation about these issues and more. Check out a clip from our talk!

I paddled the Tualatin River with the Riverkeepers and discussed this vital watershed’s health and the work to protect it. This river is a major resource connecting communities in our district, and keeping it strong keeps us strong.
