Dear Friend,
I hope you and your family had a nice Labor Day! The holiday reminds me of the values I learned growing up in a union family — dignity, solidarity, and a fair shot for every worker. Oregon has long led the way in advancing those ideals. We were the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday back in 1887, and we enacted the nation’s first minimum wage law in 1913.
As your Congresswoman, I am proud to carry that legacy forward by standing with working Americans and fighting for fair wages, good benefits, and safe conditions for all.

Cost of Living
I hear the same thing from hardworking Oregonians all across our district: everything is too expensive. Since Trump took office, Oregonians have had to pay an extra $3,900 because of inflation, his tariffs, and his illegal war with Iran.
I took to the House floor to remind my colleagues that Americans deserve leaders who are actually focused on making it easier for folks to get ahead. That is why I’m pushing to end this war, roll back harmful tariffs, and advance policies that actually lower prices. You deserve relief, and I’m fighting to deliver it.

Roadless Rule
I led a bipartisan group of 164 lawmakers in demanding the Trump Administration abandon its plan to get rid of the Roadless Rule. The Roadless Rule is a longstanding, successful conservation guardrail that protects 44 million acres of iconic landscapes and pristine forests. It has broad, bipartisan support, and it plays a critical role in safeguarding clean drinking water, wildlife habitats, carbon storage, and outdoor recreation economies.

I am putting pressure on the Trump Administration to reverse course before it is too late, and I will continue championing efforts to defend our public lands.
Oregon State Fair and Punx in the Park
The Oregon State Fair has been held right here in Oregon’s Sixth District for over 160 years. I had a blast there this past weekend. From incredible food to live music to exhibits showcasing our state’s history, creativity, and agricultural roots — the State Fair is a reminder of everything that makes Oregon so special.

After the State Fair, I headed over to Riverfront Park in Salem for Punx in the Park, now in its fifth year of bringing live music, punk spirit, and a huge lineup of resources to local youth. It was great to see so many folks join together to connect young people with support in an environment where they feel comfortable.

Defending Our Communities
Last week, my team joined a press conference with the family of Juan Miguel Aldape-Palacios, a father of three and longtime Newberg resident who was detained by ICE. After being held in Tacoma, he was transferred more than 2,000 miles away to Louisiana, cutting him off from legal support and making communication with his family even harder. My office is working to connect Juan Miguel with the representation he needs.
Over the past year, I have conducted oversight visits of ICE facilities. It was clear that ICE is intentionally creating chaos and confusion in order to enact Trump’s inhumane agenda.
My office has also assisted Fidel Cordero — a pastor, father of a U.S. Marine, and somebody who has been trying to follow the legal immigration process. After his arrest, his family feared for his health because he has diabetes and needs regular medication. We secured a doctor visit and ensured he received his insulin. I’m relieved he is now getting care, but he should be at home with his family. Detaining a pastor and the father of a Marine further underscores the Trump Administration’s cruelty.
Families like these are part of the fabric of our communities, and tearing them apart does nothing to make us safer. In Congress, I will continue defending our communities, demanding transparency from ICE, and pushing for reforms that bring real accountability to our immigration system.
