Dear Neighbor,

This week, I returned to Washington for an important meeting with the U.S. Department of Transportation to discuss critical funding for Butler County's Gateway 228 project.

From 2018-2020, my team and I secured $45 million in federal funding for the Gateway 228 project in southern Butler County. These taxpayer dollars are at work to improve Route 228, but the work is not done yet. Below, I have outlined more details about the project.

Plus, new data that shows billions of taxpayer dollars have been invested in projects and programs across our district since I began serving as your voice in Washington.

Fighting for funding for Butler County's Route 228

From 2018-2020, my team and I secured $45 million in federal funding for the Gateway 228 project in Butler County. These taxpayer dollars are at work to improve Route 228, but the work is not done yet.

That's why on Thursday, I was back in Washington meeting with officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation to discuss next steps to complete Gateway 228.

For years, I have been advocating for funding for this major infrastructure project. The 26.4-mile project widens and improves traffic flow along State Route 228 between Cranberry Township, Mars, Seven Fields, Valencia, and communities across southern Butler County.

In June, I led a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation announcing my support for Butler County’s latest funding request to complete the final portion of the project, the Mars RR Bridge Extension Project. As of June 2026, 10 of the 11 roadway segments in Gateway 228 have been completed or are under construction for a total investment of $184 million.

Route 228 has been called "a critical economic corridor," supporting 6,000 businesses, 5,000+ new homes, and $20 billion in exported freight, according to Butler County officials.

The Gateway 228 project is in the homestretch. I look forward to working with our partners at the federal, state, and local levels to finish one of the most important infrastructure projects in our district.

$3.6 billion in investment across our district

Image

This year, the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service revealed more than $3.6 billion in federal funding has been invested in our congressional district since I began serving as your voice in Congress.

This funding covers critical projects, such as road and bridge infrastructure, water and wastewater infrastructure, funding for our local volunteer fire departments, and much more.

As my team and I review project requests each year, we are always looking for those that provide the greatest return on investment for taxpayers.

I believe it’s important for everyone to remember: this isn’t Washington’s money. These are your tax dollars at work in your community.

Stay up to date with all of the latest funding for our district on my website at Kelly.House.Gov.
