Opposing Speaker Pelosi’s Multi-Trillion Dollar Tax & Spend Agenda

I have spent the past two weeks fighting against President Biden, Speaker Pelosi & Sen. Bernie Sanders' $3.5 trillion socialist spending spree and multi-trillion-dollar tax hikes during meetings of the House Ways & Means Committee.

Democrats are saying they are trying to “responsibly” fund their legislation. Tax hikes on the middle-class and small businesses are hardly responsible, but it is reckless. Democrats are prioritizing disastrous policy as our nation struggles to recover from the pandemic.

This $3.5 trillion cradle-to-grave spending bill is not about revitalizing the greatest economy in our nation’s history, it is about setting a course for socialism and consolidating power in Washington. The opportunity for an individual to experience his or her American Dream is at stake. Watch my opening comments from the mark-up below.

House Democrats have proposed raising the corporate tax rate which would drive jobs overseas, reversing the gains we’ve seen over the past four years from the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Their plan would discourage investment in America. When you factor in the average amount of state tax paid by corporations in America, the corporate tax rate proposed by House Democrats would be nearly among the highest in the developed world. And we know from studies that consumers, particularly working and middle-class Americans, will ultimately pay these tax increases.

House Democrats are also proposing increasing the tax rate on small businesses, while simultaneously reducing a long-standing tax credit available specifically to small businesses. It is wrong. According to the Small Business Administration, there are nearly 13,000 small businesses that call our congressional district home. These small businesses are the engine of our economy, and I will continue to fight against these tax hikes.

I asked my colleagues to support a commonsense measure that would require individuals to be employed in the last 30 days and have an earnings history in at least four of the last five quarters in order to receive paid leave benefits. Requiring individuals to work in order to receive paid leave benefits should not be a controversial idea, but House Democrats do not require that program to be tied to work. Every state that has a paid leave program has similar eligibility requiring an individual to be employed within the last 30 days to be eligible for the program. House Democrats are waging a war on work and want to create new entitlement programs to foster greater government dependency. Watch my comments.

While my Democrat colleagues on the committee were preaching about making the wealthy pay their “fair share” they also passed amendments significantly subsidizing the purchase of electric vehicles, which are overwhelmingly purchased by those making over $100,000 a year. Electric vehicles pay nothing to support highway maintenance. Why don’t they put their money where their mouth is and support my USER Fee Act to make electric vehicles contribute to the maintenance of the roads they drive on? Click below to watch my comments.

House Democrats want to raise trillions of dollars in new taxes so they can spend trillions of dollars creating greater government dependency. My colleague Rep. Pascrell (D-NJ) said “if that’s socialistic, count me in.” Their bill is another step in the direction of Democrat’s preferred outcome: socialism. If they spend these additional dollars, inflation will continue to rise as a result of this increased spending, further squeezing the budget of middle-class families. These proposals are just wrong, and I will continue to oppose them in the House.
