This week I want to share with you my thoughts about the true cost of President Biden’s “Build Back Bankrupt”, legislation I’ve cosponsored to educate students about the dangers of communism, a recent Ways & Means Committee hearing, and visits across the community.
I enjoy hearing from you and responding to questions from your emails, phone calls, and letters. If you would like to share your concerns or opinions with me, or if you have questions about legislation or specific votes, you can send me an email here. |

Biden’s “Build Back Bankrupt” Will Add $3 Trillion to National Debt
The Congressional Budget Office reported on Friday that President Biden and Speaker Pelosi’s “Build Back Bankrupt” will add $3 trillion to our national debt because we know that once a government program is created, it never goes away.
This, of course, is the exact opposite of what Biden said. This reckless legislation spends nearly $4.9 trillion. Their proposal is disastrous for American taxpayers.
Spending this massive sum of money would add fuel to an already raging inflation inferno. Inflation is at its highest levels in nearly 40 years, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The price of goods are up 6.8 percent compared to last year. And don’t forget, despite what the administration says, their legislation includes nearly $300 billion in tax giveaways to millionaires and the wealthy who live in New York City and San Francisco. Democrats are making changes to the state and local tax (SALT) dedication to support millionaires as they continue to march towards socialism.
Their plan to increase dependence on the government couldn’t come at a worse time for the economy. Last week, it was reported that there are over 11 million jobs available across the country. Increasing government dependence is the wrong policy prescription. We need to adopt pro-growth policies to help Americans back to work.

Supporting Legislation to Educate Students about Dangers of Communism, Totalitarianism
I recently joined over 60 of my House colleagues in cosponsoring the Crucial Communism Teaching Act, which aims to teach students about the dangers of communism and totalitarianism. It is modeled after the Never Again Education Act, passed by the 116th Congress, which created an analogous program to educate American students about the Holocaust through the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, which would provide educational materials in this legislation, was founded in 1993 by a unanimous act of Congress. It is dedicated to the purpose of "educating new generations about the ideology, history, and legacy of communism.”
Thanks to our free enterprise system, I, like so many across our nation, have been blessed with the opportunity to live the American Dream. I came to Congress to vigorously defend every American’s opportunity to work towards their own American Dream. Self-described socialists in Congress are pushing legislation to kill that opportunity and radically alter our way of life. I’m very concerned that an alarming number of younger Americans hold favorable views of communism, according to recent polling. The world knows communism is responsible for horrifying death and destruction throughout history. It is more critical than ever that we ensure our students are taught the history and the present dangers of this ideology.

Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee Hearing on Trade Policy
Congress must be clear-eyed about the threat that China poses to our nation and how America’s trade policy is part of a holistic response to that threat. Earlier this month the Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee held a hearing on this critical issue. Click below to watch my comments from the hearing.

In the Community
I had a great visit to Rhoads Energy, a family-run company, at their Mount Joy facility. I enjoyed learning more about the issues and challenges they and the propane industry are currently facing. Congratulations on 100+ years in business!
I appreciated the behind-the-scenes tour at APR Supply, a third-generation wholesale distributor of plumbing, HVAC, and hydronic materials. I enjoyed speaking with the team members and learning about their innovative inventory management technology!
It was great to meet Timbrel earlier this month. I appreciated hearing her story and learning how she is giving back through her store in downtown Lancaster, Lush Bazaar. Local policymakers need to be sure these small businesses, which are the cornerstone of our community, are supported.
