Statement on the Dobbs vs. Jackson Decision

The Supreme Court has made the right decision, which will save lives. The Pennsylvania General Assembly and Governor Wolf should take action to protect the sanctity of life. In Congress, I will continue to support pro-life policies which protect the unborn.

The State of our Economy, Inflation and National Debt

Last week, I took to the floor of the House to share my thoughts about the state of our economy, inflation and national debt. I would encourage you to watch my remarks. You can watch them by clicking here or clicking the image below.

The fact of the matter is that our nation faces significant challenges because of President Biden’s 40-year high inflation. Biden has tried to blame inflation on a lot of things, except his own policies. I don’t know the next thing the president will try to blame inflation on, but the fact is every other nation in the globe faces similar economic challenges that our nation does. Except these factors do not explain why inflation in America spiked faster and higher than in other developed countries.

We know inflation picked up significantly after the trillions of dollars of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) were spent. And it wasn’t by surprise. Biden and congressional Democrats were warned by economic experts, but they didn’t listen. Former Clinton Treasury Secretary Larry Summers warned about the inflationary impacts of the American Rescue Plan. Marc Goldwein of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget noted ARP “put gasoline on the fire.”

Despite the challenges that we face, I believe that capitalism, freedom, and free enterprise have made the United States the most powerful nation in the history of the world and have provided more opportunities than ever before in the history of humankind. I think returning to those core values can help lead us out of this mess.

We recently had a hearing in the House Budget Committee on the impact of the American Rescue Plan. Yet, most of the Democrats on the committee didn’t appear at the hearing because they knew they couldn’t defend the plan. Watch my comments from that hearing below.

Our deficits and national debt have also been impacted by President Biden’s executive orders. A recent report from the Congressional Budget Office indicated that Biden’s executive orders have cost over $500 billion. Click here to read that report. The cost of these executive orders runs contrary to the administration’s attempt to falsely claim that their policies are fiscally responsible.

High Gas Costs Continue to Take Toll on American Families

High gas prices are continuing to take their toll on American families. Yet, rather than work to increase domestic energy production, President Biden only proposes gimmicks. A recently released study from the Penn Wharton Budget Model indicated that a national gas tax holiday would only produce estimated savings of $4.79 to $14.31 over three months. That’s not real savings.

I joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business last week to discuss President Biden’s failed energy policies. Watch my interview below:

Statement on Senate Gun Control Legislation

I opposed the legislation because I have deep concerns it would infringe upon the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands of law-abiding gun owners in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District. I supported and continue to support efforts to provide funds for school safety and mental health resources, which were included in H.R. 7966, the Secure Every School and Protect our Nation’s Children (STOP II) Act offered by Rep. Hudson. I believe that we ought to work to keep firearms out of the hands of those who would do harm to themselves or others. However, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and this legislation would infringe on an individual’s rights. I will continue to protect the Second Amendment rights of my constituents.

Biden’s Border Crisis
The latest statistics show that a record number of migrants attempted to cross our nation’s southern border last month. Yet, Biden seems to do nothing to stop the crisis at the southern border.

I joined my colleagues on the House Budget Committee in sending a letter to the Biden administration to ask why they are withholding congressionally appropriated funds from being used to build a wall along our southern border. Customs and Border Protection officials, who I recently visited, told us that the border wall helped them do their jobs. Yet, the Biden administration continues to let hundreds of millions of dollars of border wall materials rust away.

Read my thoughts from my recent visit to the southern border here in an op-ed published in the York Daily Record.
