IMPORTANT UPDATES from CONGRESSMAN SMUCKER

Dear Neighbor,

Free and open debate about the issues facing our country is a cornerstone of our democratic republic. That is why I was deeply disappointed, although not completely surprised, that LNP|LancasterOnline refused to publish a recent op-ed I submitted, unless I agreed to edits that would have watered down and distorted my message.

The op-ed explained how hardworking families across our community will benefit because of the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill. The op-ed was factual, timely, and written with the people of this community in mind. With so much about the legislation being misrepresented by local media organizations and other local elected officials, I wanted to speak the truth about the bill.

Sadly, LNP|LancasterOnline chose instead to silence my voice. Gatekeeping like this done by media organizations is antithetical to the role of a free press in our society and public discourse suffers as a result. Too often in our society, individuals are unwilling to hear from those they disagree with. It is sad that this is happening in our own community, and we cannot let this become the norm.

Let me be clear: I will not be silenced.

I remain committed to communicating directly with you—the people of Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District. Whether it’s through social media, emails like this, my newsletter, telephone town halls, or in-person meetings, I’ll continue sharing the truth about what’s happening in Washington and how it affects our communities.

You can read the op-ed the LNP|LancasterOnline refused to publish here:

Thank you for reading—and for continuing to engage in the conversation that makes our republic strong. If you would like to share your thoughts with me on any issue, you can contact me here or feel free to call any of our offices.

Sincerely,

Lloyd Smucker
Member of Congress
