This is Congressman Matt Van Epps, the proud representative of Tennessee’s seventh congressional district. We've had a busy week in Washington and I'm excited to tell you about it! 

First let's talk about TN07!  As the National Guard finishes its Winter Storm Fern recovery efforts in Tennessee, I’d like to thank these amazing men and women for working 10,248 man-hours and completing 44 cut and toss missions that cleared 959.2 miles of critical routes and infrastructure, 601 medical and personnel transport missions, as well as 497 health and welfare checks.

Our team is here to help you navigate federal agencies, address concerns, and connect directly with our office. We look forward to serving you and being a resource for our communities.

The Save America Act Passed the House!

I am proud to be a cosponsor of the SAVE America Act, which passed on the House Floor with the support of Republicans and only one Democrat. This important bill safeguards our elections, prevents foreign influence, and returns trust to the election process by requiring photo ID to vote as well as requiring states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls.

The Save American Act enjoys overwhelming support from voters, including 71% of Democrats. My office has gotten a few calls from people expressing concern about those who may struggle to obtain an ID card. If you are having trouble obtaining federal documents to get an ID, please contact my office so we can help!

There are still too many states that refuse to require proof of identification for voting in federal elections. It's time for Congress to step in and pass the SAVE America Act to protect election integrity. More with Sean Hannity here.

President Trump Saves Tennessee Coal!

I’m grateful to President Trump for his actions to protect the Cumberland City coal plant—safeguarding Tennessee jobs, supporting our local economy, and strengthening America’s path to energy dominance.

I voted to secure our supply chains! 

The House passed the Securing America’s Critical Minerals Supply Act, which ensures our nation won't have to rely on adversarial nations like China for our critical minerals.

Homeland Security Committee DHS Oversight Hearing 

As a representative from Tennessee, I can’t help but compare operations in Minneapolis to those in Memphis. Federal law enforcement operations in Memphis have been successful by every standard and metric, with Memphis Safe Task Force arresting over 6,000 people. This is due in large part to the outstanding leadership of Governor Bill Lee, who has worked closely with federal partners. You can watch my remarks here.

The Food and Agriculture Sector is one of America’s 16 designated critical infrastructure sectors. Because nearly 95% of U.S. farms are family-owned operations, our farmers are especially vulnerable and an attack can rapidly cascade from farms to processors, distributors, and ultimately, to grocery shelves nationwide. Agroterrorism isn’t just an abstract threat. Meeting with the Tennessee Farm Bureau 

I enjoyed meeting with the Tennessee Farm Bureau. This amazing organization does an excellent job supporting the farmers, growers, and ranchers in Tennessee. I appreciated the feedback I received and the opportunity to discuss ways we can help Tennessee's farmers on the federal level. With “Agriculture and Commerce” as our state motto, I know how important this organization is. 

I Co-Led a Counter Terrorism Bill

This week, I co-led the Modernizing and Improving the National Terrorism Advisory System Act with Congresswoman Nellie Pou. This legislation will overhaul the National Terrorism Advisory System. When there is a credible terrorism threat, the American people deserve clear and timely information they can actually understand. This bill makes sure our national alert system works the way it should, getting accurate warnings to families, businesses, and first responders so they can take the right steps to stay safe.

Speaking at the Tennessee Business Forum 

Thank you to the Tennessee Business Forum for hosting such a great event last night and for inviting me to speak.

It was encouraging to see so many Tennessee businesses represented and to have the opportunity to share an update on the work we’re doing in Washington. I’m grateful for the chance to connect with job creators and hear directly about the issues that matter most to them and their employees.
