This week, President Biden gave his first State of the Union address following a year of self-inflicted crises. In one year alone, President Biden has caused record inflation, ended American energy independence, and failed to address the worst border crisis in American history. The state of our union is weaker than it has ever been before.
Vladimir Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine is just the latest example of the president’s failed policies of weakness and appeasement. The Administration’s decision to halt the Keystone Pipeline and new oil and gas leases on federal reserves has made us energy vulnerable, and Russia has weaponized that against us. Rather than holding Russia accountable for their actions, President Biden continues to import millions of barrels of Russian oil and gas each week, giving the Russian government billions of dollars to finance their invasion. This must end now.
To make matters worse, President Biden’s most recent budget request opposed all funding of projects that would lower energy costs for American families and help us reach energy independence. It is time this administration puts America first by ending our reliance on Russian oil and completely opening our energy sector.

GOODEN INTRODUCES BILL TO SEIZE SANCTIONED RUSSIAN ASSETS
This week, I introduced legislation to allow American citizens to seize the assets of sanctioned Russian individuals, including yachts, planes, or other property. The bill would require President Biden to issue letters of Marque and Reprisal, a tool within the Constitution that allows private citizens or groups to seize property on behalf of the U.S. government. Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and other billionaire Russian oligarchs who enabled this invasion should be held accountable for enabling the war in Ukraine.

BIDEN REFUSES TO STAND UP TO CHINA
While most Americans have been distracted by the invasion of Ukraine, the Biden Justice Department recently shut down a program focused on countering Chinese espionage because of allegations of racial profiling. We should be holding China accountable for unleashing COVID on the world and enabling Russia aggression, not giving in to the demands of our communist adversary and the radical left. Decisions like this are the reason America has lost respect on the world stage.
