West Texas Wrap-up

Dear Friend,

Below, you will find a recap of my work here in Washington. To ensure you're receiving the latest updates from Washington and across West Texas, I encourage you to follow me on Twitter and Facebook.

Bipartisan Budget Letter

As our country recovers from this unprecedented public health and economic disaster, Congress must commit to reducing our runaway national debt or face an ever bigger crisis with even graver consequences.

With mounting deficits before the pandemic and now trillions in recent spending, our nation’s debt has eclipsed the size of the entire US economy.  I’m proud to work with Representative Peters and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to include provisions in the next COVID legislation that will force Congress to address this looming crisis before it’s too late. Prioritizing US Oil and Gas

I was proud to have Whip Steve Scalise and Ways and Means Republican Leader Kevin Brady among the 40 members who joined me in writing US Trade Rep. Lighthizer calling on USTR to prioritize oil and gas in negotiations with China. To read my full letter and the list of cosigners, click here.

In addition, this past week I visited with energy producers in Snyder, Big Spring, Denver City, and Seminole to discuss recovery efforts for our oil and gas industry. West Texas producers are resilient and know how to respond to market challenges. I’m confident West Texas will fuel the great American comeback.

Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility

I am pleased that Congress has passed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act. The PPP has been a lifeline for millions of small businesses and working families. This legislation recognizes that every small business has unique challenges by providing greater loan flexibility, while maintaining the PPP’s key objective of keeping employees connected with their employers. Remembering Rep. Sam Johnson

Sam Johnson embodied the very best of America. In the face of unthinkable adversity as a Prisoner of War for seven years in Vietnam, he displayed unwavering faith and courage. He brought those same convictions to Congress where Johnson served for nearly thirty years, earning the trust and respect of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Most importantly, he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his country was surpassed only by his love for his family. It was an honor to be able to call him my friend. I cannot think of a life more fully lived, and one with a greater impact on our country and our fellow man, than that of Chairman Johnson. While all who know him can rest assured he is finally in the presence of His Lord and reunited with his beloved Shirly, please join me in keeping his two daughters and their family in your prayers.
