This week, Representative Jodey Arrington released the following statement in response to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports that there have been over 16,000 apprehensions at the southern border in the last 48 hours:

"We’ve seen over 16,000 illegal crossings at the southern border in just the last 48 hours, on top of over 200,000 apprehensions a month for the last eight months. We have experienced record drugs, crime, and terrorist suspects pouring into our communities over the last two years while the Biden Administration has utterly failed to enforce the laws, defend our borders, and protect our citizens.

"All state officials in border states should declare an invasion and immediately apprehend, deport, and secure the border! I have introduced a resolution — with nearly 70 co-sponsors representing more than 25 states — affirming states’ constitutional right of self-defense when their citizens are in ‘imminent danger.’

"This is the most clear and present threat to the safety and security of the American people, and the states are our last line of defense against a lawless and derelict President who has aided and abetted an invasion by narco-terrorist drug cartels."
