I’m humbled by the confidence and trust that my colleagues have placed in me to lead the effort to rein-in spending, reduce our debt, and restore fiscal responsibility in Washington as Chairman of the House Budget Committee. It will take a team effort within the GOP Conference and across the aisle to accomplish these goals. If we fail to act, we will lose our country as we know it. I look forward to working with all my colleagues to ensure the next generations of Americans inherit the same freedoms and opportunities we did.

Our new Republican House majority has already taken several steps to advance our Commitment to America agenda in the first few weeks of the 118th Congress. We must use our power and every tool at our disposal to secure the border, stop the reckless spending, and hold the Biden Administration accountable for their incompetence, abuse of power, and failed policies. 

We started by passing the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act to repeal then tens of billions provided to the IRS for their army of auditors tasked with shaking down American families and small business owners for more of their hard-earned dollars.

We passed legislation to protect our nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) by banning reserve oil exports to China. President Biden has used the SPR as political cover for his extreme climate agenda and its disastrous consequences. At the same time, Biden has been supplying China with U.S. oil. Somebody must tell the President that China is not our friend, and American oil and gas producers are not the enemy!

We also defended life by advancing the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act, which would ensure no baby who survives a failed abortion is denied the care they need to survive. Sadly, 210 Democrats voted against this bill, choosing to deny life to babies born alive.

To honor Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, I reintroduced two pieces of legislation – the David Dorn Act of 2023 and the Patrick Underwood Federal Law Enforcement Act of 2023 – that would protect law enforcement and hold rioters accountable. I am proud to take part in delivering on our Commitment to America – creating a safer, stronger, and freer country for every American. The GOP stands strong in our commitment to our men and women in blue, and we recognize them every day for their sacrifice and service.

Lastly, I sent a letter to the Biden Administration, urging President Biden to highlight the significance of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and defend American workers and businesses during the North American Leaders Summit. Since being signed into law in 2020, USMCA has increased the quantity of trade between these countries while creating tens of thousands of American jobs in the agriculture and energy industries.
