Dear Katie,
Welcome back to my West Texas Wrap-Up. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of West Texas!
BIDEN'S BUDGET DISASTER
This month, President Biden released his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025. In the midst of record spending-induced inflation, a cost of living crisis crushing working families, and a slide towards socialism, the President's proposed solution is the highest sustained levels of spending, borrowing, and taxing in the history of the United States of America.
In contrast, as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, I introduced Republicans’ Reserve the Curse budget blueprint. This budget, which has been passed out of committee, would balance our budget in ten years and restore fiscal responsibility, economic freedom, and prosperity in America.
See the stark contrast between these two vastly different visions for America:
I took to the House floor to outline the fundamental differences between our two visions for America.
NATIONAL AGRICULTURE WEEK
Last week, National Agriculture Week was a great reminder of how blessed I am to represent West Texas - the Food, Fuel, and Fiber Capital of the World! From restoring cotton to the Farm Bill, fighting back against woke and climate-crazed government regulations, and designating the “Ports-to-Plains” corridor to expand the reach of West Texas ag exports, I am proud of the results we’ve delivered, but there is still more work to be done.
I am as committed as ever to continuing the fight for our God-fearing, freedom loving farmers and ranchers as we secure a more prosperous future for rural America.
Since coming to Congress, we have:
- Designated the I-27 “Ports-to-Plains” four-lane, federal highway from West Texas into the Heartland, which will enhance America’s agriculture and energy dominance. It is estimated to grow Texas’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by over $55.6 billion in the first 20 years, create 178,600 construction jobs, and add 17,000 long-term employment opportunities;
- Led the effort to repeal the Biden administration’s overreaching environmental regulation known as WOTUS;
- Restored cotton to the Farm Bill, work requirements for food stamps, and a fair and level playing field for U.S. producers and manufacturers in trade deals;
- Fought for additional grazing acres for West Texas ranchers in the wake of devastating wildfires that decimated countless livelihoods;
- Removed SCOPE 3 from the SEC’s climate disclosure rule, which would have forced farmers and ranchers to tediously track greenhouse gas emissions from their supply chains;
- Fought to rescind USDA’s discriminatory race and gender-based disaster relief program;
- Advocated for disaster relief for farmers experiencing unprecedented challenges, including historic drought conditions, record input costs, supply chain disruptions, and labor shortages; and
- Received the American Farm Bureau’s Golden Plow Award, the highest honor given to only one Member of Congress each year for promoting policies for ag, energy, and Rural America.
BIDEN'S BORDER DISASTER
Biden's open border continues to be the most significant national security threat to our country.
Not only is violent migrant crime spreading throughout the country and deadly fentanyl flooding our communities, but we now know ISIS is directly involved in human smuggling at our southern border.
Hundreds of illegal migrants on the terrorist watchlist have been apprehended at the border during Biden's presidency, but how many more are among the roughly 2 million "gotaways" that have infiltrated our country in that same time?
The Constitution is clear: Section IV Article 4 says the federal government ‘shall protect each of [the states] against Invasion.’ When the federal government fails to fulfill this constitutional duty, Article 1 Section 10 expressly guarantees states the sovereign power to repel an invasion and defend their citizenry from ‘imminent danger.’
It is clear to any honest and objective person living in this country that President Biden has willfully disregarded the laws of the land, abdicated his constitutional duty to provide for a common defense, and unilaterally surrendered control of our border to terrorist drug cartels.
With Texas's S.B. 4 still held up in court, Biden continues to aggressively prevent Texas from doing the job the federal government has failed to do - stop the chaos, secure the border, and protect Texans and Americans!
My resolution, H. Res. 50, reaffirms a states’ right to secure their own border and protect their citizens when the federal government fails to act. Without H. Res. 50, as my friend and constitutional lawyer, John Yoo says, "Texas is likely to fail" in their battle against Biden's Department of Justice.
