Brett,
With Congress expected to consider additional disaster relief funding when it returns, I'm urging Speaker Mike Johnson to include economic assistance for West Texas farmers who have suffered from record droughts, skyrocketing input costs, and rock-bottom commodity prices.
As a champion for Rural America, I am proud of the work we have done over the years including:
- Putting cotton back into Title I of the Farm Bill;
- Delivering trade assistance like the Market Facilitation Program (MFP);
- Providing emergency relief through the Wildfires and Hurricanes Indemnity Program (WHIP) and Emergency Relief Program (ERP);
- Fighting to protect the exemptions in the death tax;
- Passing a 20% tax deduction for family farmers;
- Working to repeal overreach regulations like Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS);
- Improving market access in trade deals such as USMCA; and
- Securing important rural infrastructure like the I-27 Ports-to-Plain corridor.
And, I’m not going to stop fighting for ag and rural communities now!
I am proud of my record and honored to rep my cowboys and plowboys - I believe in what they do and, more importantly, the values they represent to our nation.
I know it’s been a very rough patch for our producers, especially our young farmers. I have spoken with the Speaker and many of my colleagues about the urgency of delivering immediate assistance and will continue to work diligently to secure the funding necessary to support our producers in a fiscally responsible manner in order to stabilize the ag economy and ensure food security for all Americans.
