What the "Schumer Shutdown" is Really About
Democrats voted for 13 clean continuing appropriations bills (CR) under Biden. Now, they’re rejecting a clean CR and providing a completely unserious counteroffer of $1.5 trillion in new spending, a repeal of work requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients, and protections for illegal immigrants receiving taxpayer-funded health care.
Remember, in 2020, every Democratic presidential candidate promised health care for illegals, then Biden expanded Obamacare to illegals by executive order, and then 43 Democrat Senators voted AGAINST a ban on funding health care for illegals just a few months ago.
When people show you who they are, believe them. Democrats don’t have the time or credibility to rebrand themselves as anything other than what they’ve become: open-border radicals.
Honoring 10th Anniversary of the TORQE 62 Tragedy at Dyess Air Force Base
I had the solemn honor of joining our Airmen, community leaders, and the Gold Star families of TORQE 62 at Dyess Air Force Base to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the tragic crash in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of six Airmen and five civilian contractors.
These courageous men and women gave their lives in defense of freedom—a living example of the Scripture that says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
I introduced a bipartisan resolution in the House to honor their sacrifice and extend our gratitude to the families who continue to carry their legacy. The spirit of TORQE 62 lives on in the men and women of Dyess who continue to answer our nation’s call, and in a grateful country that will never forget their service.
Highlighting I-27 Progress at Annual Ports-to-Plains Alliance Conference
I was honored to join the Ports-to-Plains Alliance at their annual conference in Lubbock to celebrate the progress we’ve made on the I-27 Corridor - a true game-changer for West Texas and America’s Heartland.
From authorizing the four-lane federal highway in 2022 to securing millions of dollars in funding for build-out, we are transforming a decades-old vision into reality.
This project will grow Texas’ GDP by more than $55 billion, create nearly 180,000 construction jobs, and strengthen America’s food security and energy independence by connecting small towns and rural communities to markets across the continent.
Interstate Highway 27 will spur a brighter future for West Texas by opening new markets, creating jobs, and fueling economic growth for generations to come.
Forgoing My Pay During the Government Shutdown
If members of our military don't get paid during the Schumer shutdown, members of Congress shouldn't either!
That’s why I’m withholding my paycheck until the government reopens.
Putting Farmers at Center of Crop Decisions
I recently introduced the USDA Communication Regarding Oversight of Pesticides (CROP) Act of 2025, legislation to ensure farmers have a real voice in the regulation of crop protection products.
There are no better stewards of God’s creation than Rural America’s farmers and ranchers whose livelihoods, families, and way of life depend on the land.
However, in an effort to advance their extreme climate agenda, the Biden administration’s army of far-Left Washington bureaucrats sidelined producers and ignored farmers’ expertise when setting crop-protection rules.
The CROP Act ensures those who grow our food - those who feed our nation and the world - have a voice in how to safeguard their harvests, keep affordable groceries on the shelves, and be the best stewards of our nation’s land.
